Random Topics / Military firearms history question
June 25, 2016, 09:14:14 AM
Do any of our military history experts know what sort of rifle or musket would have been in use by the military in the Oregon territory of the mid 1850s?

Thank you for any insight you might have.

Did the POS Falkie thread get shut down?   It seems an incomprehensible godsend that everyone collectively stopped posting there.

That was waaay harsh, VTA.  I'm no Cruz fan (find him repellent), but FtF does recognize a Trumptastrophe when he sees it.

The Daily Show featured a segment where Cruz was told, "You look like a fish monster... And you're a terrible person!".     What a weird blow to a colossal ego.

Ghost stories as a kid... TV shows like Night Gallery and The Outer Limits and In Search Of... Oh, and, of course, Star Trek.  Watching the Apollo missions live.  Exploration of all kinds is amazing.

Senda is ridiculous, rooting for those who disdain his ilk.

Trump has terrible unfavorable stats...  Something like 71% of women and 77% of Latinos dislike the guy.  I imagine blacks are not fans, nor the  LGBTQ community.  Oh well, we shall see what we shall see.

I hope this defeat spells the end of Darling Teddy from a second run in the future, but I doubt it.  I suspect he will continue to be his charming and effective self in the Senate, scolding others, orchestrating doomed and short-sighted shutdowns, and pontificating piously to any camera or audience before him.  Ugh.

Carly took a little tumble...

I hope she drops the creepy singing thing.  She just seems so damn angry all the time.

I am SICK of Beyonce!  Queen Bey... Ugh!

I went to The Daily Beast website today:  five separate fucking articles about her.  She is a very pretty bubblegum pop singer.  Can we stop deifying her?!?

Indeed... One is reminded of Peter O'Toole by way of Sir Ian McKellan.

Amy, it's a weak-sauce argument, but a non-vote for HRC is a vote for whatever excrement the RNC puts forth.  Are you willing to risk four years of Trump or Cruz policy?

God, I miss Audrey... She was STUNNING in Roman Holiday... Okay, I'm aware of the irony, but how can you all spend so much time discussing the twisted mental machinations of a half-wit and his imbecilic retinue?

I hope the Big O is hanging with those he loves, eating some wicked good jambalaya, and enjoying the night sky.

I left for a while, too Westie, but here I am back again. Not much of a Falkie fan myself, don't much see the point but to each his own. I just post elsewhere and enjoy the BG ambiance which is much better since MV installed air fresheners that go off every 20 seconds.

I'm glad you're here, too.

Very kind words, UC and Yorkie... Right back at you!

It's like a recipe... You have to have the right ingredients to make the dish.  Humor balanced with humanity, proclamations balanced with reason and evidence... When the scales tip, the fun and learning go out, and there is little reason to stick around.  JMO....

Seriously though, All Things Falkie made me come very close to dropping out, too.

You got that right... At GabFest '09 dude grabbed my ass in the line for the john.  Said he thought I was DigitalPig, but I don't think so.

The old GWB thing... Would you have a beer with Trump?  I would a lot sooner than I would with Cruz, Carson, or Robotio.  Kasich, maybe.  I won't vote for Trump, but down a beer or two with him?  Sure.  I think he is your party's guy.  Good luck with that....

Sure.....    Check out Grover Cleveland or even more recently G.W. Bush.

According to a 2013 WSJ report, 35 of 52 GW Bush appointees were confirmed; 30 of 42 Obama appointees were confirmed.  Statistically pretty close.  The federal government has been turned into acidic molasses with growing divisiveness.

Still celebrating the detection.

Have been listening to these three Brian (Lustmord) Williams albums:

The Place Where the Black Stars Hang

Arecibo - Trans Plutonian Transmission

Metavoid

A man after my own heart!  I enjoy Steve Roach's deep trance electronica, too.

Has there historically (hysterically) ever been a president who's had so many appointees blocked or stalled?  Food for thought....

I admired his caustic wit and broad knowledge of pop culture, literature, and politics.  The last six plus months I think his mirth evaporated, his resentment became scathingly real.  Mighta been when he wished my family and I would die because he and I disagreed over the institutional racism in law enforcement.  Nonetheless, he remains a much loved BG icon.  I hope he's not thrown himself out of a Boston high rise.

Yeah, I won't sleep tonight.

I seem to remember a guy that looked a lot like you.

Hey, Onan... Yeah, been taking an extended break.  I check in occasionally.  Don't want to piss on the heartfelt feelings of those who admired Scalia.  I am not numbered among them.

Huh, I saw an authentic show of emotion.  Any of you slobs mock your own John Boehner when he cried repeatedly?  Hell, maybe you did because tears are girlish and weak, am I correct?  As for washing away the flies, oh, that's a good one!  Fuck yeah, flies on that dirty African boy, yeah, no dog whistle racism here.

This place -- with the exception of the kind and bright people who know who they are -- has become a cesspool of all that is dreadful in human beings.

Well... Bye.  *mic drop

Haven't posted in a couple months maybe, but couldn't resist commenting on how adorable the child in Weed eater's avatar is... What a look of pure joy!  I miss the days when my own was so small.  The years go by sooo fast--enjoy every, every moment.  Belated Christmas wishes of peace and bliss to all.

Here's part of the reason I'm not into professional sports anymore:  Dodger pitcher Grenkie (spelling?) is turning his nose up at the remaining $71 million (for three years) on his contact...  Yeah, I can totally relate to today's ballplayer (sarcasm)...  I remember the days when the back of a baseball card might say, "In the off-season, Binky Smith is a contractor."
