Get this: It pissed him off. He bent over backwards DEFENDING Apple...from his office at Adobe!
i'm not a huge fan of flash.  i find it to be a MAJOR security hole, and it fails to use system resources in a reasonable, proportional way (it's a pig).  however, as you said, at least adobe is giving it away.  also, adobe is surely going to protect their brand by improving flash in the immediacy.  oh, and the above quoted anecdote just about made me lose my lunch.  i really hate the undeserved good will apple gets from its fanboys.  it is a tech cult, and like any cult, its followers pump in lots of money and question nothing the cult's leader chooses to do.  just nauseating.

Quote
I told him I've always been a GPL-GNU fanatic, not just because it works well (mostly), and not just because it's free, but because I believe in the principle.
same here.  open source is just better.  period (not that flash is open source, but u know what i mean).

Quote
...and that google gives away all their stuff. That pissed him off even more.
google has done more to enhance my technology life than probably any other tech company out there, and they've done it ALL without demanding a penny from me.  now THERE'S a company, in my opinion, that truly deserves good will.  sure, they make a mistake here and there, but generally i see google as a rather benevolent enterprise.  apple is cut throat, dirty, and manipulative.  (sorry to frazzle you fanboys out there.  that's just how i perceive the two companies, and i think on the whole, history backs me up.)

Quote
I may have mentioned Android, but I do remember my parting shot: I predicted that google will build a (practically) universal WiMax network...and (practically) give it away! Gated communities and internet islands, and that whole business model will not last.
have you heard about google's plan to bring gigabit internet access to homes/businesses in 50 cities?  ooooh gooody i can't wait.

I gave them a second listen.   Yeah.  Really bad stuff.  But allow me to say a few positive things about them.  I like the red jump suit.  The silver pants/suspender attachment is sharp.  In fact, after doing a little research on them it seems they may single handedly save the polyester industry, which is good because, even though there is no use for it today, it may be urgently needed again in the future, and they also recorded a track with Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in Lord of the Rings.
wow.  that's harsh.

i'm curious, what do you prefer to listen to?

Ha! Thanks. We don't have AT&T in Boise, so not so many -fonz and -padz...I hear the reception is REALLY bad!
i just discovered this iPhone left-hand reception news this morning.  it would seem my delay in awareness has resulted from the fact that i've not been keeping up with my regularly followed technology podcasts.

i've noticed a general murmur here and there within the tech community speculating that the long decried, legendarily pathetic iphone service on at&t might not be at&t at all... but, rather, it might be THE GOD DAMNED IPHONE!!  wow.  maybe that's why apple surprisingly hasn't allowed verizon a shot at the device yet.  perhaps apple KNOWS their cover would be blown if the phone moved to a more reliable network and service didn't improve proportionally.  then again, this is all speculation.

let me be clear:  while i am not a fan of apple, it's products, or steve jobs (in particular), i do acknowledge apple's space within the market.   i acknowledge and respect the innovations apple has brought to the fore in both conventional computing and mobile.  we've all benefited from it as consumers (i hate that word).  apple has recast our expectations of what a phone should/could do... and the competition has been playing catch-up for three years.

unfortunately for apple, the "catch-up" phase is over, and they are losing their once insurmountable position of mobile dominance piece by piece, bit by bit.  it's happening daily.  sure, the new iphone might have sold around 1.5 million units (or something in that ballpark) in three days, but google's android devices are moving about 160,000 PER DAY... ALL YEAR... not just following corporate sponsored announcement ceremonies.   it's an android growth trend that won't end any time soon.  i believe the long term outlook for apple in the mobile sphere is gloomy, at best.  we are watching the 1990s pc-vs.-mac war play its self out all over again, only this time it's in mobile computing and microsoft isn't a player.  at all.  do you own apple stock?  sell.

think about it:  just a year ago, android was a joke... a red headed step child... a buffoonish caricature of what apple had already successfully germinated.  apple arrogantly and dismissively sneered and cackled at the prospect of this otherwise irrelevant mobile operating system posing a threat.  and today?  android is every bit as useful, enjoyable, practical, advanced, and desirable as anything apple is peddling on the mobile side.  new and improved android phones are released again and again in tandem with an onslaught of android iterations, and iphone is squeezed out like some diabetic neuropathy BM once per year.  apple can't continue to keep up with android's breakneck development and evolution frequency.  they won't.  case in point: every "advancement" announced for iPhone 4G will be bested by an android device within 4 to 6 months, and from there, android will only push the envelope further against iphone.

lesson:  don't doubt the google.  once they put serious man hours and serious money behind something, it's more than likely going to rule the world.

the above was written after being awake now for over 24 hours.  please excuse errors.

So an engineer takes one out to a bar, gets drunk, and loses it? And it ends up in the hands of a tech blogger? I don't believe it. I think it was a really, really, nasty, unforgivable stunt.

Makes google and facebook and even GN look positively benevolent.
i KNOW.  it's really just quite difficult to absorb it all at face value.

oh, and speaking of the new iPhone, have you seen this?

HaHaHa. If I had several million dollars, I might consider it. I can't blame you for mentioning it, but first you'll have to race me to ICANN, because I fully intend to scoop up "georgenoorysucks.xxx" ...OMG...   when they get that up, .com and everything else is just gonna fade away!
supposedly, they're going to use the .xxx top level domain only for pornographic sites, and the anti-porn people are getting all excited about the prospect of easy porn filtering on the horizon.  they apparently don't understand that such filtering would only be viable if porn sites voluntarily use the .xxx TLD... and rest assured, porn sites won't restrict themselves to using .xxx it if doing so implies facilitation of the filtering of their content.  the only way it could work is if porn sites are forced by ICANN to use the .xxx TLD, and then we get into the whole hairy mess of determining what constitutes porn.  bleh.

Anyway, here's an off-topic link (at least for this thread), I think you'll enjoy (based on your artwork). Although it's probably not new to you, maybe some others haven't seen it. Of course you may want to move it to an appropriate thread, I just wanted to include it in this post without duplicating it in another thread.

I'm likely going to make my 4th trip to Morocco soon.  Time to start planning.

The Western Sahara, south of Morocco, is a vast swath of largely untouched, disputed desert territory with an occasional coastal town here and there.  Running down nearly the entire coastline is a single, needle-thin, two lane road.  This road looks like something out of a Wiley Coyote and Road Runner cartoon.  It just goes on and on.  While traveling, you'll encounter forbidden mine fields:

How cool is that?

Though not actually a part of the Western Sahara (just north of it in Morocco), along the way is the small town of Tarfaya.  It's famous for a fort (in the ocean) built in 1879 by a Scottish merchant.

This road just goes on and on from Morocco's southern border to Mauritania, following the coastline all the way.

Give me a reliable car, a couple weeks of food, many many gallons of water, several cases of deodorant (I'm getting sweaty just thinking about it), and I'm there.  However, convincing Nabila to go will be quite the challenge.

As far as where I'd like to go, surprising as it might seem to some, I'd like to visit both Iran and Cuba.  North Korea would be a hoot, as well... but it's far less likely than Iran or Cuba for obvious reasons.

Sooo... again I ask, where have your travels taken you?  Where would you like to go?  Please share.

oh, and i must confess, if someone offered me $1,000,000 for the GeorgeNoorySucks.com domain, i'd probably consider selling.

i'm just putting that out there. planting seeds.  heh heh.

hi, unclejim.  let me start by saying, welcome to the forums.

it seems currently that a majority of this forum's users lean right of center.  it wasn't always that way, and it won't remain that way.  change is a constant around here.

i find the recent departure of some of our more liberal members baffling because they were never censored or otherwise   discouraged from expressing opinions.  i think i can speak for everyone here when i say we enjoy debate, and would appreciate a wide variety of opinions on a range of topics.  hopefully your inaugural post will be the first of many, and i'd suggest that you bring some of your friends along.  i respect the fact that you appear eager to change the opinions of others rather than only associate with those who share your own.

i love the scissor sisters.  they're from the states, but they never really made it big here.

i like them for a lot of reasons, among which is the fact that they actually are able to sing live and play instruments!  heh heh.  their songs aren't formulaic and repetitive like a lot of artists out there today.  they're quite interesting.  here are a couple of their tunes.

scissor sisters - return to oz

Scissor Sisters - 06 - Tits on the Radio

and... they took a lot of shit for this one, but personally, i like it:

and yeah, i was under the impression that this would be one thread for all live shows.

"catch on" meaning that "threads" don't change; or, is this a one thread fits all shows format--All shows right..MV?
what i mean by "catch on" is that it will take a while for meaningful numbers of people to remember to consistently show up and post in this thread during the live show.  it'll eventually happen if u guys can keep it going, and this is probably one of the better formulated efforts at such a thread thus far on this forum.

Is there a "positive" George Noory community on the web? I sure haven't found it. Sure there's the NightHawkZone but that place is like an Auschwitz for Coast fans as everyone who goes there seems to disappear soon after first registering. Also it's not a community since the word "community" implies social interaction among more than two people. So please tell us where the thundering herds of Noory fans congregate online.

I didn't realize this website was such an "anti-noory" establishment. I figured this user base would understand more than most others that there are many more important things to occupy our time with than radio host hate. I heard bad things about this community and it's bickering elsewhere, but man this is just childish.

Apparently I didn't explain very well. I meant what I think you are saying MV, just one place for all of the shows.  I meant one single "thread" or place where all of the shows would be, one right after the other, and not all over the place.
is your "tonight's coast to coast offering" thread what you were wanting?

Thankssaucy.  I hope we are not wandering in "no man's land".  I am so very glad you are onboard with me tonite!
keep in mind, you're probably going to be in "no man's land" here with this thread for a while until people catch on.  just the nature of things.  one thing this whole message board gig has taught me is that you can't simply throw something up and watch the flood of users pour in to populate it.  it takes time, dedication, word of mouth, and consistency.

Stanley Lucas, oldest man in Europe:  Dead.
Born 15 January, 1900.  Died 21 June 2010.
Yup, this guy was already 14 years old when WWI broke out.
He was 12 when the Titanic went down.
Christ... He was ten years older than I am NOW when WWII broke out.  Wow.  He was old.

Jo Jo Billingsley, backup singer in original Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup:  Dead.  Cancer.

That's Jo Jo on the right.

I was a huge Skynyrd fan when I was a teenager, and today I still greatly enjoy Skynyrd's more obscure songs.

The people touring today as Lynyrd Skynyrd have no business using that name.  Hell, there's only ONE original member in the lineup currently touring.  What a shame.

Tonite we will get to hear Art!  Having all of June's shows--or any month's--together in one thread is a great idea.  I've been wondering though, if maybe we should have a place for each night's show.  I've noticed comments about the various shows all over the place.  If we had just one place to go for a night's show, a thread, we'd all know where to go and maybe find company to listen with and comment, laugh, enjoy, or suffer through with each other.  What does anyone think?

I don't care much for Art's topics tonight as I already stated on some other thread, but EYOWZA!  What the hell, its ART!

Little Asia Bell is an absolutely gorgeous child--a living doll, even!  Here's tonite's photo (despite the kinda dopey but cute little outfit....)

i think an individual thread for each individual show would be overkill.  if you want a sort of live gathering place for each show, you'd be best served to make it a single thread and keep it contained there.  people would fail to find their way to a new thread each night, and your efforts would receive far less attention.  also, it would be generally sloppy.

also, i believe art said asia's outfit is a school uniform.
