Yep that's exactly what they made it sound like. It seemed plausible at the time since smoke from the Marina fires were pretty bad over the city. Actually I had a buddy in the Marina at the time (softer earth there) and he told me he really thought it was all over for him it was rolling so bad. But I guess he got over it, later he moved over to the East Bay pretty much right on the Hayward fault.
