The Ox Yoke Inn is still around and it would be a nice place to meet for a New Years Eve lunch.  How about a hand breaded, southern style, deep fried catfish fillet sandwich?  $10.99 and you can get soup, tossed salad, fries, cheese, smoked bacon strips and sautéed mushrooms to go along with it but each of those items cost extra.

I have been there! My husband loved their schnitzel and their bratwurst was amazing!

I still got some Braniff playing cards. Great stuff. Have simple English, Spanish and Portuguese phrases on them in case your travels would take you . Stuff like how to order a drink, find a bathroom, buy film, buy flashbulbs, etc.

Great.  I always like to learn that a fellow BellGabber has been to a postcard place.  I'm glad you had a nice meal there.

Sadly Leo is no longer with us.  But he had a good run of 92 years.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Hoegh

Now how cool is that. I still regret every set of stewardess dispensed wings I ever let my mother toss out.

Research shows that Kay-Bee Construction is still a major building service in Michigan.  The building at the above listed address appears to be vacated, though.

That location for the business looks like some kind of questionable tavern operating a "book" and some "construction labor" advisors. Painted blue simply because that color "fell off the back of a truck."

honest tourism from my hometown. this is not a joke. it's the state's real campaign.

Looked around the neighborhood some.  Few blocks down is where "Vonnie's Sweet Shop" was located.  Sadly, it too, looks to be no more.
Sad as it offered a fascinating mixture of products and services.  :D

Kay-Bee are hacks.   When it came to construction and remodeling, every Detroiter knew the Dark Lord of Construction was  Mr. Belvedere and
that "Tyler Eight Seven One-Hundred" is truly the Mark of the Beast   ;)

Thanks Walks.  Too bad that guy's business didn't deliver on honest building services.  I do like his commercials.  Here is my favorite business owner that made his own commercials, the late, great Tom Peterson.  (He had some appliance stores in Portland, Oregon for many years and as far as I can tell, he was on the up and up in all of his business dealings.)

I'd very much like to eat at this place, especially if they gave me the second table in.  I'd make sure to sit in the chair facing that brick planter.  But then my date would probably wonder why I was staring at the top of her head so much.

Gus Steven's restaurant closed in 1975 and the building was demolished in the year 2000.  But it had quite a history.  This from Wiki:
QuoteGus Stevens Seafood Restaurant & Buccaneer Lounge was a restaurant and supper club on US Highway 90 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Gus Stevens, the Greek-American owner, came to the Gulf Coast in 1946.
The restaurant building was constructed with a Moroccan architecture style turret.
It was famous in the 1950s and 1960s and hosted many famous entertainers, including Andy Griffith, Mel Torme, Rudy Vallee, and Jerry Lee Lewis. It is also well known as the last place where Jayne Mansfield performed; she died early the next morning in a car crash while being driven from the club.
The establishment closed in 1975 and the building was empty until 1977 when it was rented and revamped for an El Palacio Mexican Restaurant. That closed in 1985 and the building was empty until 2000, when it was demolished and the location slated to become a Surf Style store.

Ha, you're right of course, Walks.  I actually thought that three of the letters in your post were in bold print.

Just so you know, May 17, 1916 looks like this in Roman Numerals: V · XVII · MCMXVI

As K_Dubb would know 17th of May is Norwegian Independence Day and still celebrated well:

@K_Dubb might also appreciate. Good stuff. I wonder if those were before it became such an energy hub, especially the second one? The craziest thing once I was there and they had a choir from Texas singing in the Cathedral? So weird. Totally random. Just went to see it (Cathedral) But as happens when you travel and then find folks like you. But really weird. Some Lutheran youth group choir from Texas who happened to be there.

ps: many don't know but Statoil has changed their name!!  Now Equinor ASA
