XP Updates

I couldn't find a definitive answer to the question as to whether all previous XP security updates would still be available if I needed to re-install XP now that it's no longer supported, so I wiped the hard drive on one computer and re-installed XP from the CD that came with it. I turned on Automatic Updates and set it for three AM. At noon the next day, Windows informed me that I had 134 security updates ready to be installed, so it looks like MS hasn't abandoned us completely. I replaced Security Essentials with Avast! Free Edition - way too intrusive, but it looks like it'll do the job.

I also installed Lubuntu alongside Windows with a dual-boot option. Looks like 2014 won't be the Year of the Linux Desktop, either. Still way too 'techy' for the average user, I think.

yes, all previous updates will remain available.  as a matter of fact, if you were to install windows 2000 right now, you would have access to every update until the last one provided.

Sure, that's all fine and dandy, but we what we really want is a fresh 3.1 off a 3.5" diskette install.  I'm still running 3.1 with winsock and ie 3.0 - hackers ignore me!

Your Windows boots up in, what, like, a day and a half?

True and Microsoft has said it will provide one last security update for XP fixing the newly discovered security flaw in it's IE browser.

Originally I heard otherwise.  Did that change?

You are most welcome. BTW, what color is the sky on your planet, and how do They explain how your twin towers are still standing?
