Art Bell Bumper Music

Started by MV/Liberace!, January 24, 2009, 02:28:13 AM

"White Bird" by David Laflamme was my favorite.

albrecht

Art's bumpers were good but aside from Cusco fairly common (still good) and repeated. Knapp has him beat on bumpers I think. Of course, alas, Knapp is on so infrequently and Art (in the day) was on a lot so hard, I would think, to be able to come up with bumper music for nightly shows. In any event, Art's bumpers were good (maybe a bit too much ABBA but still every time I watch Slapshot I think of Art, and every-time I listen to Art and hear Maxine Nightingale I think of Slapshot!)

Not Sure, what the Genesis of this thread was, but I figured it was the place for this post.

Art, I respectfully submit this song that I heard on the radio for your listening pleasure/consideration as Bumper Music (I would be amazed if you never have used it, to be honest):

Journey - Any Way you want it 1980

Bonus track for my disclaimer (which I also heard on the Radio this afternoon):

Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight (Official Video)

I tread lightly, but still step on toes, apologies...

General.  THANK YOU!! CRUNCHY GRANOLA SUITE has been haunting me for years!  I never knew what it was called. I just knew I loved that bumper song every time Art played it.  He never let it play long enough for me to hear Neils voice.  That string intro kicks ass!!

General.  THANK YOU!!
You're welcome.  I'm glad if anyone gets any use from my meticulous list.

Albemuth

I got 1 for Art  here. This is a tune from 1979 by Canadian band Martha & The Muffins: Echo Beach… Not unlike Lee Hazlewood/Nancy Sinatra’s “Some Velvet Morning”….Has a surreal, timeless  inexplicable longing-to-be somewhere-else vibe to it. The lead-in ramp makes it easy to talk into…and there’s a cool sax solo reminiscent of Gerry Rafferty’s City to City record:

Martha and the Muffins - Echo Beach

"Echo Beach faraway in Time..."

I just can't seem to get Some Velvet Morning out of my head. I love that song.

Oh, and I thought Gabriella Cilmi wrote that one in 2009 :P Another confirmation that modern pop music is dead and all the cool tunes were written eons ago.

Someone previously suggested "Eminence Front". Art, that's got your name written all over it.

Your Wildest Dreams - The Moody Blues

Good Sir, I believe you've overlooked Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath.

Okay, maybe it was never used by Art.  But in my opinion, it COULD and SHOULD be used as bumper on MITD, as it is so philosophically apropos to revealing the unseen/unknown/unthought.

Heaven and Hell was Game of Thrones before GOT was GOT, damn it!

We must educate the realm, and take back what is our right, and assume our places next to our brothers and sisters! In this War between the Sons of Light and the Sons of Darkness!

(rolling on the floor)

(foaming at the mouth)

... and it goes on and on and on.... Heaven and Hell!... ah, well....

((Quick, someone grab the portable automated external defibrillator. Cam's experiencing the Godhead* again.))

*don't even THINK about saying it, Jaz.

Tusk - Fleetwood Mac

I believe MV has that particular gem on Eight Track.

Art if I can make only one suggestion for music it would be to use this song for what I'll call an outro, use it while talking about what we're in store for tonight with the guest, etc then cut it when you go to commercial. This song gives me goosebumps and just feels like a song that you'd like.

If you hate it, oh well.

LYRICS OF MIDNIGHT RIDE - DIRTY PENNY

Verse 1
Feels like I'm living in a train
Nothing as it seems
And the nights keep getting longer everyday
Gonna ride this gift I've been given
Gonna live this life I've been given
Never slow down, don't stop, get out of my way
And the nights keep getting longer everyday

Chorus
I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride

I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride

Verse 2
Living life like there is no end
Come down with me my friend
Cause the nights keep getting longer everyday
The only light at the end of my tunnel
Is the light at the bottom of my bottle
Nights keep getting longer everyday
Never look back don't stop get out of my way

Chorus
I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride

I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride

I'm on a midnight ride, I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride, I'm on a midnight ride

I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride
I'm on a midnight ride

Art,

You might want to check out the music of Buddha Bar.  Heavily instrumental (perfect for voice overs), BB is really an outside the box departure from typical pop/rock music.   Representing music from various cultures around the world, it blends synthesized music with real instrumentation.  There's uptempo, mid, slow/chill...something to fit every mood (and topic)!

Some of these are long mixes, fast forward to hear the different tracks.

FESTE - Midnight Ride + Lyrics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWyfY6KBDK4

I met you downtown at the bar,
Sitting smoking your cigar.
You know how to make me sweat.
Come take a ride you won't forget.
You make me beg you make me plead.
Take a midnight ride with me.

Cadillac from '65. Well why don't you,
Hop on in, it's just your size.
Now we're speeding round the bend.
We change direction like the wind.
You make me beg you make me plead.
Take a midnight ride with me.

Cause you're acting o so vicious,
And your lips they look delicious,
Not afraid to make some wishes,
God damn, you're so ambitious,
Lie and deny and play the villain.
So you get high and you cry,
You feel the friction.
Make me beg and plead and put up a fight.
Take a midnight ride with me tonight.

Well you grab your coat, you grab your shoes.
You leave me singing the blues.
Well do you have to leave so soon?
Now I'm howling at the moon.
You make me beg you make me plead.
Take a midnight ride with me.

You make me beg, you make me plead,
Take a midnight ride with me.
You make me beg, you make me plead
Yeah! Take a midnight ride with me
Make me beg and plead and put up a fight.
Take a midnight ride with me tonight.
