Ian is probably the most popular guest host On Coast, save for George Knapp.

He's also a fine author:

Overview
When things really go wrong, what do you do with the feeling that God is to blame? A popular Coast to Coast radio host (and Episcopal clergy) provides some answers. In a first of its kind book, Ian Punnett provides a spiritual path for expressing your rawest emotions through prayer and how to rebuild a relationship with one's higher power--or anybody else in your life.

Hey everyone I posted half a million images I had nothing to do with creating in another thread related to nothing on this board. Go appreciate them.

Who is this Ian Punnett fellow?

For a Deacon Ian has some interesting thoughts always on his mind. For example when talking about the possible blackmail of Warren by LBJ/Hoover he immediately goes for "a senorita and a donkey" -not, as guest was mentioning, the possibility of photos of Oswald in Mexico City or, as most normal people might think, some compromising but "normal" sexual incident in Ol' Mexico. Maybe a prostitute or just a cheating affair. Or even, the more licentious among us, thinking of some homosexual or tranny deal in Mexico. For the blackmail. But to go straight to bestiality? He also frequently mentions drinking quite commonly and throws away phrases about "blaming beer" and such.  I'm not sure in what church Ian is a Deacon, I think Episcopal, but even though they allow drinking I doubt it is encouraged, especially to excess or as a way to "excuse" whatever bad activity or crime....

Very good observation albrecht. That was strange comment indeed.
Or maybe he knows something...??

Dopplerganger show was pretty good. Some good tales. And the "Stephen King killed John Lennon Guy" got on the air and he mentioned his website and claims that Mark David Chapman was a doppleganger of Stephen King and the news used the term "doppleganger" to confuse and brain-wash the public of the fact that King really killed John Lennon. I was surprised Ian didn't recognize the caller from years prior when he would dump him. Caller "V" with her tale of family-member murders being replaced by body-doubles and use of drugs to ensure the children "stay bonded" was a bit off-subject for Ian.  Ian, somehow, knew that "a magazine called 'Gallery" had a 'Girls Nextdoor' section when a caller mentioned that she was told she had a doppleganger who was in the adult industry.

Now I wish I'd listened. So what is this about Ian and illicit Mexican pony shows?

Episcopal church has really gone whackazoid!

You really should take a look at his book on "angry prayer". It's quite the eye-opener!

https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/how-to/a22454/pray-pissed-at-god/

There's a new entry to the growing literary genre of Books-with-curse-words-in-the-Title (e.g. Go the F*ck to Sleep, Sh*t My Dad Says, Social Media is Bullsh*t, etc.).

This one, though, I believe is the first to be found in the theology section.

Ian Punnettâ€"a Minneapolis-based Episcopal pastor and radio hostâ€"has come out with How To Pray When You're Pissed At God: Or Anyone Else for that Matter. (Admittedly the P word is only PG-13. But still. For a pastor, that's a big deal). Title asideâ€"and the title is significant, as it got the book banned from Christian radioâ€"How to Pray is actually a heavyweight (but funny) look at the meaning of evil, and the importance of righteous anger in our livesâ€"and the Bible's use of naughty words. Punnett gives us many sample prayers, including "An Angry Prayer for the Victim of Corporate Greed" to "An Angry Prayer for Those Who Are Cut Off in Traffic."

I'm sure he had fun when he was "doing time" in the cornfields of Ada, Ohio.  ;D

I take it she didn't find living in the "suburbs" of the greater Ada metro, such as Alger or McGuffey, an appealing prospect.  Or was downtown Ada just to "hip?"  :D

Last night "Cleopatra girl" called Ian during open lines and told him "BC" stood for "Before Cleopatra" and AD stood for "After Cleopatra's Death." She seemed stunned when he immediately told her that wasn't true.  I think she's gotten so used to George letting her get away with saying anything, someone raising the bullshit flag really discombobulated her.

Yep I always recognize her voice, she thinks she is the reincarnation of Cleopatra.

She should like this new TV series on CBS that started last week "Blood & Treasure" about a search for Cleopatra's sarcophagus.

Shipwreck show was pretty good except that not enough guest talking shipwrecks and a bit too much commentary by Ian and a short segment instead of a real full show. An interesting subject and character so could've been a long show like an old Art-style show.

Good to know. I started and fell asleep. I’ll have to take advantage of my exclusive insider status to give it a listen tonight. Ian a standup guy.

Really glad it was Ian who did the Enfield Poltergeist show last night, he was a perfect host for a researcher who was just trying to present factual information.  The thought of Connie giggling through the interview, George asking his usual ill-timed, inane questions, or Knapp trying to establish a paranormal reality with a skeptic, yet seemingly open minded guest would have been bad news.

Nice. I have it recorded and planned to listen some evening since it was an interesting case.  I did listen to Friday's show while doing some chores earlier today.  Again I'm struck by Ian, considering he is some kind of Deacon, he ended the show by attempting to joke with an old Vet, who was talking about good luck or kindness or coincidence or something, who was able to get a ride to the VA in a sportscar with a young woman and Ian kept using sexual allusions and some kind of "got it up" comment or "way to go" etc? One of my ear buds got snagged on a branch and noise so I didn't quite catch it but it was weird. The older guy didn't seem to catch on to his "joking."  He frequently mentions "magazines" and drinking and other stuff, like fascination with "true crime," that often involves severe violence and rape. Fine and normal, especially these days, but for a Deacon, and now professor, and in such a cavalier, almost prurient way, is weird.

Props to Ian for his mockery, last night, of that pea-brain who called in claiming that the films/videos of astronauts on the Moon were all shot on Earth but.... wait for it.... the spacesuits were filled with helium to simulate low gravity. [KLAXON]

Un-props for not equally mocking the other nincompoop who said "That part of the Moon is in permanent day. The reason you can't see stars in the photos is the same reason we don't see stars at daytime on Earth." [KLAXON]

Ian apparently has also "got the message" and ended the show early by playing some pre-recorded bit. At least it wasn't an awful replay of a decades-old shock-jock fake car crash prank bit or an awful Norry rendition of Poe but unfortunately did involve a recording of Barry Soetoro, or whatever name he was using this decade.

Totally different than George's "get out of Dodge early" deals. What Ian played was a tribute he was commissioned to do on US military chaplains for a network, but they didn't run it for whatever reason.  This tribute dovetailed beautifully with his guest who has written a book on Catholic chaplains in WWII. Obama's segment was very brief, and was part of the citation for a chaplain's CMH.  I found this three hour C2C show one of the most moving in many years.

Admittedly I was in a bad mood. Digging out, once again, in the heat, a broken sprinkler head and mad because, this time, I could not blame it on "neighborhood kids" or "joggers" but by my, apparent, malfeasance and, purported, aggressive mowing style. And indeed Chaplains etc should be honored. Certainly. And what an odd situation when one thinks of it. There was some recent movie, I don't recall name, that featured one. Amazing. As an aside I always like "Sargent York" movie and real. The idea when he figured he could save lives by shooting (not a minister but a Christian.) In the old days, this wasn't mentioned, there was a phenomena called "peace of God" (Pax et treuga De) whereby battles and feuds were actually stopped. But only for a time, often. So strange. Some say the usual crap (way to consolidate Papal authority, way to pick winners, etc) but I always thought it was interesting that, at the time, warring factions still held some standards. Of course this was attempted, to a degree, recently with various 'Conventions' which also are fascinating... the idea that war has "rules." Ponder that. Philosophically. We, collectively, assent or agree that war is necessary and so form a sort of HOA.

However, something recently has irked me about Ian. I used to really like him and still better than other hosts left unsaid but he is weird. I guess this is good. And I guess also that this comes with his calling/ministry/teaching (likely pastors, priests, etc hear ALL kinds of things) but he seems, a bit, off on some stuff. He seems to always bring up drinking, "true crime" salacious details, or porn. Cool, I guess, but weird for a pastor, maybe? I know I disagree with his blatant political bent but I don't think that is all.

AvDaBr

For as long as I remember hearing him, Ian has struggled to get to the point when asking questions.  Is it just me, or is it worse now than ever?  I'm guesstimating 10 minutes of total airtime are consumed occasionally by him stuttering and stammering while setting up questions.  He has a sharp mind- one his mouth apparently cannot keep pace with.  I wonder if this may to some degree be an effect of tinnitus.

Also, it would be nice if he could delve into the paranormal occasionally.  The Enfield episode aside, he rarely does a show within that realm.

He got a call this weekend from a guy who was citing LMH, but the caller referred to her as "Linda More Hyman."  Ian laughed, then said that sounded like a porn actress name.

Ian last night asked his first guest to talk about "smut" and how it differs from porn.

According to the good Deacon:  "smut is to pornography as burlesque is to a strip club."
