Hello All,

My website invoice came and holy shit it's retarded expensive. I am taking suggestions on where to house my website. I figured you tech nerds would know better than I. Thanks so much in advance.

Call me a tech one more time and you and I will have words.

And, no, I don't know jack about hosting sites.  Pm MV.

Juan

Hostingmatters.com is not the cheapest, but they've been reliable for many year.

I was with iPower for over ten years, the price crept up every year until I finally dropped them and went with DreamHost last year, so far so good, we'll see if the price and service remains stable.

Over $200, one.com, basic hosting and minimal storage, and a website for my book. Duh I should have included that information.

It did not. LOL. More than likely I will just use facebook to promote my books. As I have no agent now a website really isn't necessary. We'll see. I still have a month left before they pull the plug.

you don't need a website, you need a thread on BellGab.com.  Keyword stuff it and point your domain to it! :)

MV needs to sell a service level where you can lock the thread for promotional purposes.  It would be a BG goldmine and you would have a place to point people to learn about your books. win-win.

I saw this guy a lot when art came back

that image still gives me nightmares.  I remember listening to SXM when Art came back the 2nd to last time and he shouts out BellGab.com (while MV is out of the country with family) and I see the website all out crash moments later.

Nancy and Bill?  How are they doing?  I'd still love to have a 4 hour conversation about WWII history to current times with Bill on air.

No idea. Haven't talked with either of them in a year. Last I knew Bill was working on UFO hunters. They aren't t done their show in a long time either.

Last I heard, they were trying to make a buck by making fun of some guy, and then it didn't work out, and then they went where balloons go. They went away.

That is actually an amazing idea. Thanks all for your help. Looking forward to nerding out and making this happen.

You can host for free at http://www.batcave.net but I don't know exactly what the stipulations are. I have been using it for about 3-4 years for a personal project and have had no issues at all with the free service. Not sure what the monthly cap is, I have very little traffic if any, and I use it for writing and testing code.

It's got a typical file manager with sub-directory support. It also supports javascript, CSS, html, etc... as well as various multimedia. Plus I think it has FTP support even with the free service. I usually create files on my own and then upload them to the directory. But it's like a sandbox, no blog-template-horseshit, but a true open web server with good support just like in the old days when internet was fun and versatile. I have never paid a cent or have been nagged to upgrade to paid services either.

It might be worth checking out, at least for a transitional period while you shop for a less greedy provider.

I don't like how Scroogle and Bigbrotherbook and Narcissist-Press have killed the sovereign web server in recent years. I preferred the internet when there were more independent/unbiased networks providing hosting services without reliance on mega-conglomerates who these days only let you build a homogenized template based on a bloated heap of shit that scrolls down into infinity while thriving on instant gratification notifications via comments, sharing/forwarding, etc.
