That might be Michael Horn's rain poncho.  It's about the right size.

I found this while clearing out my mom's apartment after she died earlier this year, and have no idea what it is. I just showed it to a friend who can repair or make almost anything short of a nuclear submarine, and it stumped him.  It's a rectangular piece of metal that looks like a miniature version of the "2001" monolith inside a plastic cage that's about three inches high. Does anyone know what it is?  Thanks!

Weird. Sorry for the loss of your mom. The only thing I can think is some kind of gimmick used in washing clothes or something? Throw that thing in with your wash and it somehow improves? Maybe something in the 'metal' comes off or it simply help agitate the load due to its weight? I don't know.

Is the metal magnetized?

Hi RGG, that is odd- is it magnetic? Any outstanding qualities- smooth, shiny, etc.? If I had to guess, it's either a toilet bowl sanitizer or your mom was smuggling plutonium slugs out of old soviet Russia. You could put it in a cage with a canary and see what happens. If the bird lives you've got 30 days of freshness for your bowl. OR you could ship it cross country FEDEX and the FBI will let you know what it is. Aren't you glad you asked?  ;)

I think it's a 2001 monolith inside a plastic cage. Far out man!

I can see how you would mistake it for the sorts of small, cylindrical objects you strategically insert in order to enhance your manga viewing experiences, but Mom was into sumo scat porn, and fully enjoying that requires some heavy duty accessories that, with all due respect, would undoubtedly hurt you in ways you never imagined if you were foolhardy enough to attempt using them.

You ruined the joke you are supposed to say "whats a dickfer?" then i reply "to pee with"

I don't know what it is my first thought was maybe some kind of weighted sump pump hose attachment but the top has no hole. *shrugs*

Thanks, albrecht.  To answer all the questions at once, the metal doesn't seem to be magnetized and it's smooth but not shiny.  I'm guessing it was something for the toilet/washer/dishwasher, but I prefer AB's interpretation.  A mini monolith would be a very handy thing to have!

I think you'll catch more millennials with a "henway" than you will with a "dickfer".

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're saying what I think you are, then his joke is supposed to be funny because it implies that he pees the "henway" even though he has a "dickfer."  If not, then I still don't get it.

You are supposed to say "what's a henway". 3 or 4 pounds.

mikuthing01

"Hey dude! Do you know where I can get a henway?"
"what's a henway?"
"Oh about two and a half pounds."

My first car was a 66 Barracuda that I bought totaled from an insurance company when I was 14 and spent the next two years restoring it. Wish I still had that car.

Mine looked just like this, but without the racing stripes. I think my wheels were pretty much the same as these too. With wide ovals.

I just found out that's exactly what it is, and best of all it's a passport to Europa with full rights and privileges.  From what I hear, they don't hand those things out to just anyone.  Far out, indeed!  8)

That is a good looking car. All the new cars have too much plastic bloat around the rear and front bumpers.
