Fox news veteran liberal commentator Alan Colmes has passed away after a very brief illness. Cancer, I believe but it has not been verified. He was 66.

Rest in Peace, Alan.

I've checked your math and it adds up. Good work, JJ! I'm all out of gold stars though.  :(

Yeah, this was a bummer to find out about.

Larry Coryell. I'm not a big fan, but he had preternatural talent.

I felt similar about him. His music was somewhat out there and inaccessible to most (I've never been a big fan of jazz fusion, in general) but he sure had some chops.  8)

Alan was one cool dude.  I watched a show where he and Sean were at Hofstra University a number of years back.  Can't remember what the subject was, but during the question  and answer segment a student got up to ask a question but first he had to brag about how he was studying to be an MD.  "How much do you charge?" Alan cut in.  That was damn funny, though it was lost on most of the audience there.

Alan was one cool dude.
He seemed like a genuine good guy, and a true pointy-headed liberal, with an even pointier wit, and a heart.

I never saw "Hannity and Colmes", but I listened quite often to Colmes' radio show. His "niche" was attracting right-wing callers, who tried to beat him with their loud, usually inarticulate angry voices-- and Alan would hold back, interject a reasonable thought or two -- and the callers would just dig their own holes.   Alan's subtle witty jabs went right over their heads.  Funny thing is, even these right-wing nuts became regular callers to the show.  So they are probably sad at his passing, too.

Poor Joe from Pahoa, Hawaii.

I never listened to his radio show but caught him a few times against Hannity in their show, which I didn't like. I'm all for real debates but it seemed, at least to me, that they, like CNN did with that other bespectacled "liberal side" guy. They chose an ineffectual, sort of limp-wristed guy. Novak would, even if just by sheer venom or energy, always dominated him. (I recall one time when Novak challenged him about someone being effected by some drinks. Basically calling him a pussy for assuming someone couldn't handle some drinks.) Same with Hannity, though he was less good stuff than Novak. It was a set-up. The stuff with Buckley against, often, stronger "liberals" and better discourse (aside from than infamous time) was much better theater, or debate. RIP though.

I used to enjoy the Evans & Novak show.   Rowland Evans, Jr. (RIP) and Robert Novak (RIP) were both staunch conservatives so it was like two against one when they had a liberal guest on the show. I especially liked their yearly pre-Christmas show when they would grill Art Buchwald (RIP) about what he was up to and would give him a hard time when he would openly proclaim his deep love for Hillary Clinton.  Those were fun shows, and I've got them on tape.  I like to watch them around Christmas time.

I was misremembering, I think it was Buchanan when he took over Crossfire had another bespectacled, limp-wristed libreal opponent. BTW, I liked when LaRouche would get airtime on shows. Here he saying the same thing as TODAY: DNC versus the Democratic Voter base! Haha.

No, "The Alan Colmes Show" he had recently, 'till his death.  I listened for a number of years.  I'd never heard of the guy before I found his radio show.  I seem to remember finding it by hanging on after a Phil Hendrie show.  But I'm probably misremembering the whole thing.  Come to think of it, I don't remember how I found Phil Hendrie, or Tom Leykis, either.  Serendipity while turning the dial.  The beauty of radio.

Just heard the news too.

As President of the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Bill Paxton Fan Club, it is with a heavy heart that I encourage the membership of the BBFC to celebrate his life and accomplishments.  Remember all the times he made us laugh!  The world lost a great one today:

Damn! He was too young. They just said complications from surgery. I wonder what they were working on?

That is crazy. 61? And he didn't seem like an unhealthy or obese guy. Surgery is by itself always a risk but wonder what the surgery was for. RIP.

Oh...OK...I just hadn't heard that term in awhile. I usually hear it referred to as a "hand job" in modern vernacular.  :D

He had heart surgery and had a fatal post-op stroke.  RIP.  Overweight Ernie Borgnine lives well into his 90's and this relatively fit guy dies after heart problems and and a stroke at 61.  There are no guarantees in this life. Even if you stay fit, you may die young whether you buy toomeric or not.
