After hearing the first night of Dark Matter I eliminated a ton of the podcasts that I enjoyed because after hearing new content from Art it was clear that the quality and content of those podcasts paled in comparison to Dark Matter.  While I've tried to go back to those podcasts I find I'm listening with a much more critical ear and can't get back into them.  While I enjoyed Clyde Lewis' Ground Zero, he seems to have gone off the rails and become complete drivel.  So aside from fun radio like O&A and Ron & Fez and a few others,  I currently have a void in programs focused on the supernatural, paranormal and conspiratorial.

I like Frequency Cast. It's a UK tech show. Nicely produced.

What's the Frequency Kenneth?

Clyde's got one of the most polite callers I've heard anywhere. Clyde and the callers almost never talk over each other and pause to let the other answer them.

Not only does he have polite callers, Clyde is polite and respectful to callers that disagree with him.  It is truly special to hear a host who is not afraid to have a caller challenge him, allow the caller to say their side of the argument and then hear the host and caller engage in a respectful discussion of both their points.

Also, Ground Zero's callers are quite intelligent as well

I've only listened to Ground Zero a few times after reading about it here on CG.    I also perused the show's website and read some of the host's essays/commentary at:  http://www.groundzeromedia.org/.    To me, Clyde Lewis has a lot more in common with, say, David Icke and Jeff Rense than he does with Art Bell.   If I recall correctly, didn't Art ban both of those guys from his show?

The Ground Zero show is not my steez, and I'm thinking Art Bell doesn't roll that way either.  Of course, I could be wrong.

I think that a lot of Clyde's most recent essays and shows have focused on the imperative of various events across the globe that merit attention.  If you were to go into Clyde's podcast archive and check out shows from last summer you might have a different opinion.

Clyde's rational, real discussion of the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman event (and exposing the media lies about it) were stellar and exemplify the way that a host learns from members of his audience who are different than he his and Clyde's ability to cover a event and allow all sides to be heard and manage the show in a dignified, respectful manner.

I would also recommend the following programs to get a better idea of Clyde being more of a devils advocate than a hard viewpoint host: post-Aurora shooting programs, all his programs associated with the Benghazi incident, his Christopher Dorner show and many others.

One episode I would consider a Must-Listen is his coverage of DB Cooper, here is a link to an mp3 of that episode:

I don't care for Adam, either. I listen for Dvorak. .

Adam was at his best when he was playing the hits...

That being said, given that "back in" what I like to call "the day" Adam Curry was known as the Podfather due to his early adoption of podcasting and his influence helped popularize podcasting; you would think that the No Agenda Radio programs would not have the poorest podcast feeds of any of the podcasts I sample...  When I type the RSS address for a No Agenda program such as Jack Blood's Deadline Live, the most recent podcast available is January 25.  Adam & John's No Agenda RSS podcast feed seems to be 5-7 days behind on the Android stream.

I'd imagine Adam will be begging for money if they don't fix the most basic ways to hear the show because without ease-of-listening, they will keep hemorrhaging listeners and, in turn, donations...

Thanks for the extensive list with links, RHastings.  Could you let me know which ones focus mainly or at least primarily on the paranormal?  Thanks!

Absolutely.
In terms of the paranormal podcasts:
- Surprisingly Rogan focuses on paranormal quite often.   Rogan believes in aliens, bigfoot and many other paranormal ideas; he devotes not all but may of his podcasts to this.  He recently has Steven Greer on, and lets just say without directly calling Greer out but by simply asking the right questions, Rogan exposed Greer as a fraud.

-  The Conspiracy Show with Richard Syrett (ZoomerRadio)does a ton of paranormal focused shows.

The following usually largely focus on paranormal/unexplained but current events have become the imperative to focus on recently:
- A Dark Secret Place with Bryan Suits (KFI)
- The Lifeboat Hour with Michael Ruppert
- Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis

Another podcast I find most enjoyable is Penn's Sunday School on the episodes that his primary focus is paranormal or he has James Randi as a guest.

My take on the speculated April 2 message hidden in plain sight:

As the father of a young daughter, Art is just letting everyone know that he is excited about International Children's Book Day on April 2

Part of the problem with that was the union contracts.  Voice-over talent in the big markets (and national ads) was all union and the union contract didn't mention streaming.  Broadcasters began streaming their commercials, but the unions squawked and demanded to negotiate a new contract.  The broadcasters had to pull the ads from the streams until a new one was worked out, and I don't know if a satisfactory one has ever been negotiated.

That doesn't forgive broadcasters for not working out value added time on local streams in smaller markets.  In those markets, the voice over talent is considered work for hire (for the most part) and they are paid one time.

All good points UFO Fill; however it is important to acknowledge that the radio industry has had over 10 years to figure things out regarding the union issues and monetizing the web stream.  I'll also acknowledge that initially radio companies wanted to make the online stream unlistenable so it wouldn't impact ratings, however for years Arbitron has included online into the ratings equation.  There is nothing more annoying than trying to listen to a show like Coast (or any national program that is strict to the clock) and hear an endless loop of Kars for Kids and Cars for the Blind PSA's (personally I don't understand why we're encouraging people to donate cars to children and blind people... seems like it would do more harm than good... LOL).

Back to sNoory, here is a bit of wild speculation that wouldn't surprise me:
If I am correct and 'ol soy sauce colored hair announces his retirement in late-April and Premiere moves Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis into the Coast time slot, Premiere would have an opening if they choose to make the Ground Zero brand a 7 days/week program.  Noting that sNoory has tarnished the Coast brand identity, I don't see any of the current crop of hosts being named to the weekend role.  There is a host who has been quite critical of the Coast brand and who would fit well into the Ground Zero brand, that man: Art Bell.

Why does Art Bell becoming the voice of the weekend under the Ground Zero brand make sense?
It gives Art and opportunity to have the best of both worlds: the ability to maximize the time living life with his daughter and wife and return to an industry he is passionate about and a format where he is the living legend.  Additionally, from a philosophical point of view, Art and Clyde seem to have more shared viewpoints than Art and George ever shared.  Both Art and Clyde know that what makes a radio show great is when listeners aren't preached to but people hosts have discussions with.  Both men have a great curiosity about issues not discussed by the mainstream and allow their programs to serve as a virtual town square where opinions are respected and intelligent discussion occurs.  While I wouldn't wager that this will happen, I certainly could see it being quite successful.

Good points RHastings.

Too those I would add that Pandora is now becoming a built in interface in the auto, this is a death knell for music radio.

Thanks!

In addition to Pandora and iHeartRadio being built-in to many 2012 and 2013 autos, another shift is set to occur in 2014 models:
GM will equip several 2014 automobiles with 4G mobile connectivity, enabling data speeds of up to ten times that of 3G connections

The program Market Place (American Public Media) recently did an interesting story on it:

They are taking the viewpoint of a he and she format.  One will be geared more towards the male listening demographics and the other what "women want in radio."  Of course, everyone wants George, so he may be going there with Coast.

You are absolutely right that radio is going through a major  transformation and only has themselves to blame.  The   decline began circa 2002 when they thought it would be a good idea to take ad money from Sirius and XM but did nothing to counter the new offerings on satellite or the iPod which began to gain mass appeal in 2002.  When the terrestrial radio industry finally got around to a differentiator to satellite and the iPod,  it was  streaming.  With streaming,  radio made a major blunder that that haven't resolved ten years later:   they made streaming of broadcast stations hard to listen to by playing the same three PSA's during commercial breaks.  Instead of giving advertisers a value- added comp by playing their ads online and measure the response thus building a foundation to monetize streaming.  Then the industry ignored podcasting and with the proliferation of smartphones,  radio continued their hemorrhage audience  to podcasts.

Even with all of the poor choices and missed opportunities outlined above,  there is one piece of technology that had a greater impact on radio's decline than all of the above combined:  it wasn't video that killed the radio star,  it was the Personal People Meter that did.

Regarding the proposed St Louis experiment of identifying stations like we identify pubic restrooms,  it's only been successful at two stations in history:  Washington DC's WJFK and Los Angeles' KLSX;  both long before  the Free FM format and the People Meter.  The guy talk and girl talk formats have been tried both in local and national formats with big time personalities and been disastrous in the ratings and quickly scrapped. Today's  terrestrial environment doesn't have the names to make it viable and neither format is really People Meter friendly.

As far as sNoory, I  think it's quite telling  that in an  article  favorable to him,  he refused to provide even a vague comment  like "I can't share much,  but I can promise you that the great people of St Louis, who have  been loyal to me since 1996 and continue  to make my show great,  will still be able to hear the show and I'll tell you where in late April."  Such a comment would not violate any contract clause, simply because it doesn't say much.

If you read the article and note what was shared and add  the sNoory no comment followed by the late April vague announcement mention;  there is a good chance that something is up.

I'm thinking that Premier and sNoory agreed on a buy out and to not give the impression that they fired George,  he fought for a phase out where he'll announce his retirement from radio in late April,  maybe they even do a  goodbye sNoory week of shows the week before Memorial Day.  George's retirement from radio is essentially him sitting out an agreed upon non- compete  period.   He can still do that tv show mentioned on his Wikipedia,  use soy sauce to color his hair and whatever else it is that sNoory does.   When his non compete ends,  if a program director recovering from lobotomy surgery decides it's a good idea to hire sNoory then he is free to come out of retirement.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong...

From what people post about George's performance lately it sure seems like he cares less about doing a good job than he ever has.  All the big stations he's lost over the past year or 2 suggest poor and dropping ratings.  10 years is a very long time for any TV or radio show.  The guests and topics get worse and worse, who the hell listens to most of this stuff.

There has been a significant, noticeable difference in Noory's rapport with callers and guests from January 2003 to the present.  The program has become predictable, recycled and an endless repetition of the same guests spewing the same drivel... When the callers question the accuracy of a sNoory statement he typically panics or gets annoyed instead of engaging the caller... He has lost the ability to challenge a guest on anything or dig deep on a topic with a guest... He's become so conditioned the the same format every night and it is rare that he will call an audible to focus the program on an important national or global news story the created a major buzz that day; instead he chooses to keep the schedule so people can hear Richard Hoagland because, well, he's scheduled for that night and if Coast cancels his appearance they might not be able to book him as a guest again...  ::)

Maybe this analogy will explain it:
Premiere knows that they have a superstar like Adele on the bench ready to step in to the spotlight but they are choosing to keep the 2012 version of Whitney Houston in the spotlight a bit longer...

Welcome, RHastings.  While all you said about sNoory would make sense in a sane world, we're talking here about broadcasting.  Anchors, reporters, hosts, etc. are usually forbidden to mention another station.  I would assume George's contract includes much of the same basic language mine did (except much more money for him) - and mine was so inclusive, I couldn't sing in the church choir without written corporate permission.

Hi UFO Fill and thank you.

You are correct that sNoory would likely not be able to mention another specific station but a general statement about "another station in St Louis" (unnamed) or "we'll continue to be heard in St Louis" (unnamed) wouldn't be a violation.  Regardless, Noory's contract is with Premiere and not with KTRS.  (I have a past career life as a broadcast journalist, so I'm quite familiar with such contracts.  Btw if you think media contracts are restrictive, check out pro athlete's sponsorship/endorsement contracts; they will blow your mind...)

Anyway, I think it is a moot point because I'm placing my bet on a sNoory retirement from radio announcement in late-April.  Premiere is being nice enough to let him continue for a month with a Friday announcement prior to a final goodbye week (quite unusual in radio, with the exception of Stern I cannot recall many national programs getting a farewell tour).

That's just my opinion,, I could be wrong...  :D

Hi Everyone:

Long time follower of the board and have been reading the site for years and have spend countless hours listening to MV's old CoastGab Stream and linden2k's Fine Art stream; I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the streams and the intelligent discussion on this site.

Well, something finally convinced me to hit ye olde register link to comment on something: within weeks sNorry won't be meeting anyone in St Louis at the station where he became the "Nighthawk".

Now that sNoory has gotten rid of that pesky baggage that tied him to St Louis as well as losing his time-slot on KTRS; I have been predicting another big change for sNoory before the end of 2013 but something in the St Louis Post-Dispatch article makes me wonder if the timetable for the next major change has been moved up:

QuoteNoory has declined to comment, saying he would address the issue in late April.

As a public relations professional, I find it incredibly peculiar to pass on the opportunity to provide a comment to an article that is mostly favorable to you.  Noting that the St Louis market listeners were the people who embraced sNoory's Nighthawk show and provided him with the high ratings to garner the attention of the Premiere Radio executives who gave him the opportunity to be the guest host and eventually the host of Coast to Coast AM; it would be imperative to assure the KTRS listeners that he will still be their consistent voice of the night but on another station he'll soon be able to announce.  Then on the Sunday prior to the station switch he creates another opportunity to make a splash with longer, feature pieces about sNorry's ties to St Louis, thank KTRS for giving him the opportunity which changed his life and push listeners to his new station.

Unless there is no new station to announce and the "issue" sNoory will be addressing in late-April is: retirement.

In April 2012 I stumbled upon Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis and was quite impressed.  I immediately felt connected to the program as Clyde connects with the listener in a way that is eerily similar to Art.  When he began taking calls that night I was shocked: A host who actually listens to callers and doesn't freak out but has an intelligent, rational discussion even when a caller challenges his information or presents a viewpoint different than his... I believed such a host was an urban legend.  I've listened every show since that day I stumbled upon Ground Zero; it is addicting the same way MV's old CoastGab Stream was and linden2k's Fine Art stream is.  When he announced last summer that the show was going national and being syndicated by Premiere, I immediately thought/hoped that this was the beginning of the transition by Premiere from Coast to Coast to Ground Zero.

I'm predicting that the late-April announcement is sNoory's retirement from radio and the end of the Coast to Coast brand name.

Look forward to everyone's thoughts.
