I went to podcastone this morning to download my Tuesday listening, and I was greeted by this crap. George Noory ruins everything.

Paranormal - Conspiracy - UFOs - Etc. / Re: John Titor

There's a pretty good John Titor show going on right now on Jimmy Church's Fade To Black show on Dark Matter Radio. I had almost forgotten what a good back and forth, engaged conversation on this subject sounded like. No sensationalism, no non sequiturs, and BOTH parties are engaged in the discussion.

I kind of wonder if this is Noory's idea of proving that things CAN get worse on nights he doesn't host. I recall several years ago he made one of his "clever" April Fool's jokes that Coast was going to change formats and become a cooking show. Here we are heading into 2014 and I think that idea may be an improvement.

WOW.

I just turned on the radio to hear how Ms. Albrecht sounded as a host and THIS is the topic? Honestly, from her voice and tone on down to the topic at hand, it sounds like midday Prozac radio for the housewife set.

True classic show on tonight (not a Noory self-proclaimed "classic"): Art with the antichrist line from 1998. Callers doing their best "spooky voice" and Art's great nonchalant responses. Some guy "I'm the anti-antichrist" Art: Then you're on the wrong line. This is the antichrist line, not the anti-antichrist line or the antichrist hunter line. Pay attention".

Listening to KNYE stream test via Windows Media Player. On my player it reads "Art Bell's Dark Matter Live", which is kind of a tease.

I just heard the podcast yesterday. So he came on to play nice, but with the agenda that he'd schmooze the guys so they'd get rid of the negative online thread about him? Classic. With all that talk about having a thick skin for this stuff you can still tell it drives him nuts he can't control everything negative said about him online.

God damned right Art! You come back with a stronger product and I'm there.

Come back at all and I'm there. I was loving the show as-is, even though I am one of the ones that DID get the "phantom dropouts" that others have said didn't exist. I'm used to it though because I listen to a lot of shows online and stream a lot of videos, always with mixed results (on various devices and at numerous locations: it's not about the equipment always, sometimes it's the quality of internet service in a geographic location).

Something doesn't sit right with me about all of this. All these new accounts, Noory with his crown avatar, doing his little victory dance in the sucks thread, calling the podcast and playing the little angel, the accusations of murder against Art. If I may make a suggestion to MV: If I were you I might want to consider getting rid of anyone who has signed up in the past two days and putting a moritorium on new accounts for a while. I don't know what's going on here, but something just doesn't seem right. Feels like a coup or like there's an agenda to destroy this forum. Either way, it's just getting out of hand.

That's---relatively paranoid, actually.  I signed up last night to figure out what was going on since Art had mentioned this site so many times on the show, and I'm sure the majority of the accounts had a similar mindset. My shock and disappointment that Art Bell had already ended Dark Matter brought me here, although I do kind of like being under consideration as an "evil interloper" by association based on when I started an account.

I just read elsewhere that they played Ride My See Saw by the Moody Blues coming out of the last commercial break.

So there's that.

Rubbing it in much, Coast?

Yes, it's from that book. Sorry I neglected to mention that. Cautionary tale? Maybe. But the whole nasty account sounded more like bragging to me.
The point is, this is the sort of thing he's willing to do to get what he wants.
Nice guy, huh?
Yeah, in the same way that Ted Bundy was a nice guy. Psychopath.

That's pretty much how I summed it up in my last reply: "on the other it does provide an interesting look into the psyche of the way George handles his perceived 'enemies' or rivals in times of stress (see the past two months and the tactics Coast used against Dark Matter and Art)."

Bragging? You know, when I read it several  years ago and didn't have the background on George that I do now, I didn't see that at all. Now I kind of see it like "cross me, and see what could happen". It WAS couched in the book as "I did this and it was wrong, and here's why", but your interpretation is really valid as well.

I had the same experience as the majority here. It took about five minutes to cancel and the lady was very nice. She tried to offer a discounted price but I had explained that if Art Bell wasn't going to be on the air anymore then I wasn't interested. No hard sell, no problems. She made sure to log the reason I was cancelling, so hopefully everyone else who cancelled or will do so going forward lets them know this is the reason.

"Worker in the Light"???  Wow... it sounds more like "Worker in the Dark."   :o  El creepo!

To be fair and objective, it was a recounting of something he did when younger. He went on to talk about the "karmic backlash" that resulted and how that was a bad thing to do. So it's a cautionary tale of sorts. On one hand it's refreshing honesty (if it happened that way); on the other it does provide an interesting look into the psyche of the way George handles his perceived "enemies" or rivals in times of stress (see the past two months and the tactics Coast used against Dark Matter and Art).

What's this from, Spinner?

That's a quote from his book Worker In The Light.

(yeah, I read it: got it at Barnes And Noble on one of those "red dot" sales for $2).

 Art,

I signed up for this forum last night and waded through the packs of savages because I wanted to try to figure out what happened and what's going to happened going forward. I would not go through the trouble for any other radio host or one who is "washed up".

No.

Even though my days of being a "fan" of Coast and Noory ended years ago, I used to still listen to the occasional show. However, the stunts he pulled over the last two months leading up to and during Dark Matter's short run on Sirius revealed a lot about him. If you can't beat them, sabotage them seems to be the name of George's game. After I got disgusted with that bit I went online and found out he had years ago basically bullied a forum that was negative about his show and all sorts of other low character moves that I've now read about on this site.

So, no. George and company still do not "win". I'll listen to podcasts or other nighttime radio programs, but I won't support that one anymore.

Listened via PC. Usually the quality was okay, but there were a few dropouts during the show. I'd say it happened at least once a night. A couple of times it'd start to sound like it was under water, then it'd skip back to an earlier part of the show and I'd have to logout and log back in to get it straight.

Sadly, I didn't trust enough to go "all in" and I made the right move. I just had the online subscription and listened through my PC. I'm technically "out" whatever the prorated dollar amount is from now until the 15th of the month.

For those that have cancelled their Sirius account what happens if this situation is resolved?

* For the record I don't believe that there will be a favorable (for us) resolution but what if?

Like I wrote in my first post (I signed up last night because of this), I cancelled after Art made the announcement on his facebook page. The lady I spoke with mentioned that she was handling a lot of cancellations that night and seemed kind of flustered but was very nice. She asked if I wanted to end my subscription now, and reminded me that it re-bills on the 15th and I could continue to listen until then (I was not foolish enough to go for longer than month-to-month until I knew for sure if Art was staying or not. Big fan, so I know the history).

If the issue gets resolved favorably (the show continues) then I'll restart my subscription. There are a few things I like on Sirius (one sports show, Carlin's Corner, some of the music channels) but not enough to keep me as a subscriber without Art. DEFINITELY not enough to keep me at $15 a month when I can get Netflix and Hulu Plus for just a few more dollars than that COMBINED.

I don't know how many people here are twitter savvy, but if you do a search for @sirisuxm and check the "@mentions" within the past few house at leastr 80 percent of them are about Art Bell. I can't imagine any of the crappy celebrities like Jamie Foxx or Oprah have meant that much to Sirius. Gee, imagine listeners actually wanting to hear RADIO HOSTS. They threw millions at celebrities to do losing channels on Sirius, but they can't accommodate a curmudgeonly radio LEGEND who has an idea to make the show more accessible to the largest number of listeners?

Whatever. There are definitely no winners here.

I was never one of the "haters" even though for the past few years I was not among the fans. When Art Bell came back fans were reminded of what good radio sounds like. If Premiere Radio was ever behind George wouldn't they have made the Saturday replay "Somewhere In Time with George Noory" instead of playing Art's old shows? There are now over ten years of shows to choose from after all.

No, George was the new host but never the replacement and he knows it. That's why he chose to go low brow by having Oates on the show when Art was announced as coming back. Then there was the classless guest poaching and intimidation. No matter how you spin it that was tactics, plain and simple.

Well, George and Tommy's tactics backfired because even though Art may not be showing up live again I WILL NEVER go back to listening to distant second best after the stunts they pulled over the last two months.

"George Noory Sucks"? I used to disagree just out of respect. Now it seems appropriate. If a man shows no real respect then he deserves none.

I began listening to Art Bell with my dad when I was just a kid. I tolerated the other guy for a while until he became a parody of himself a few years ago. When it was announced that Art was coming back on Sirius I waited like a kid on Christmas eve for that first show to begin and I was not disappointed.

Tonight I cancelled my Siruis subscription and it's back to "Somewhere In Time " and pirated old shows, it appears. The lady working for Sirius that I spoke with a few hours ago was very nice, but seemed flustered. Towards the end of our conversation she noted that she had dealt with a lot of cancellations this evening and wanted to be sure she had logged the reason for my cancellation.

I don't know if Art over played his hand, or if he's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers and something else is in the works. Either way, nothing tarnishes the years of great radio and I wish him the best....even though he's left me with NOTHING worth listening to as far as live radio is concerned.
