Crowley was right. Obama did mention terrorism in the speech and Romney's claim that it took 14 days before the president used the word was false. You can argue that the use of the phrase "acts of terror" was too broad or what-have-you, but Romney's claim that the word "terror" wasn't used for two weeks isn't true.

No, Crowley was wrong.  "Acts of Terror" was used broadly, as in acts of violence, and not specifically to a planned terrorist attack.  He didn't mention the Benghazi attack being a planned terrorist attack in his U.N. speech, WHY NOT? ???

The speech was all about a spontaneous prostest that went out of control, and not about a planned terrorist attack.  Crowley gave Obama preferential treatment.

Romney had Obama on the ropes about Libya.  Crowley came to Obama's aid, but she was clearly in the wrong to do so, and she was wrong on the facts.

What the hell is "pre-planning"?

The Benghazi consulate attack was pre-planned.  If you don't believe me, go look it up.

The "malaise speech" from the summer of '79 was via Caddell. Which lead to accusations of him being an embedded conservative with former ally Bob Shrum being his chief accuser...safe to say he's a member of the right nowadays, at least unofficially.

I don't think he is a rightest, he just isn't a lefist.  Above his personal politics, or his relationship with the Democratic Party, his attack on the media is right on.  Not enough questions are being asked.  The media is really letting down this country.

I was posting political videos in another thread, but I thought I would create one just for politics:

Pat Caddell Says: Media Have Become an "Enemy of the American people"

Here is a highlight video, but it is well worth to watch the long version:

Interesting question. does it not give you pause that the reason media matters arose was to counter the information that fox news was broadcasting?
No, not really.  All the corporate media have problems.

I completely disagree with this. And I squarely blame Rupert Murdoch. No one holds fox news accountable.

The mainstream media and the government keeps repeating that these embassy attacks are in retribution for a you tube video, what the real analysts, and even journalists (non corporate) reports, point to coordinated attacks.

It's actually happening the 12th.  Even though I'm an iPhone guy myself, they need to have something really amazing this time to stand out from the crowd.

Thanks for the correction.  It looks like I was tricked into thinking it was tomorrow due to the hype.

I already see the tech media, and even the mainstream media getting ready to slobber all over Apple's product announcement tomorrow.

And this post is one I respect. We don't have to agree with each other. And I get your argument that people choose to come here for very good reasons. I do not see that as a reason to not look at our short comings. There is no reason we shouldn't be first in education. There is no reason our healthcare is the most costly yet not the most effective. There is no reason we should have the levels of poverty we do. There is no reason we should have the violence we do.

Oh yes, there are very certain reasons for the degradations you mentioned above. All of those have come at the expense of increasing government intervention in free markets.

Haven't followed this thread, but listened to Wells' last show.  Does he EVER take calls?  It seems like all shows he does is 4 hours of him and the guest.

It doesn't take that many calls.  He has done entire shows without a single caller.

At 37 bucks why not just try it? Memory is important if you are really tasking your machine but if you are writing term papers... not so much.

Technology / Should I Upgrade?
August 17, 2012, 09:34:55 AM
I have a:
ASUS M2N-E Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

I had been running 32bit Windows 7, because of hardware compatibility issues.  I got rid of the old hardware and recently installed 64bit Windows 7.  I would like to take advantage of additional memory capacity.  I've been thinking of putting another 2gig in my machine at a cost of $37.  Would I see much difference in system performance?  I'll likely build a new system middle of next year, but wouldn't mind investing a little to get better performance in the short term.

Thanks

it's not hard to imagine how someone could come to this conclusion.

did you add the dvds to your streaming package?  or did you drop the streaming and go dvd only?

over the course of the last 3-4 months, i've started feeling netflix is lacking as a streaming service.  it's just not quite where i want it to be as someone who gets by with no cable or satellite tv.  i frequently am hard pressed to find something i'm willing to watch.  that seems like something unimaginable in the past.  either their streaming service is withering on the vine, or i've watched everything and/or i'm imagining it all.

all of that aside... netflix's position in the market is so precariously perched that i think anything could topple them.  for instance, just their loss of stars as a content partner represented a whopping 8% reduction in the streaming library.

I completely dropped streaming.  I could find things to watch with the streaming service, but I wanted to do a marathon of certain movies and were not available, only DVD.  I got rid of cable more than two years ago, and life is great without.  I don't watch as much TV as I used, for sure.  I still have my Roku, and even without Netlix, I can find things to watch.

The studios are holding hack A LOT of content they simply don't want Netflix to have for streaming.

Politics / Re: awesome video about media bias

To quote William Butler Yeats, "the centre cannot hold".

I used to believe in that 15/70/15 split. I don't anymore and I'm seeing the divisions becoming clearer everyday. At a family outing the other day, politics(Ryan's selection as VP in particular) were the cause of quite a few "animated" conversations and resultant bad feelings. And quite of a few of these people were formerly "Reagan Democrats" who voted for Republicans (in national elections) frequently. Not anymore. Personally, I'm a cafeteria voter, I pick certain issues. No party, no candidate can ever count on me. It's fluid, my views can evolve(or devolve)

Is the media biased? Almost certainly...but in this day and age, people tend to pick and choose the media they get their information from, there are innumerable alternatives. The days of Walter Cronkite are gone. Keith Olbermann just learned this the hard way. Only a masochist would watch Chris Matthews or Sean Hannity to be annoyed them.

The study as presented in the video confirms what we all pretty well knew.  But remember there is a difference between commentary and news reporting.  Of course commentary will be biased, but what we expect and don't get are objective news reports, or we get news reports that wander into commentary.

I've been wondering the same thing.  If it doesn't, the cartel will find away to outlaw it (esp. dar.fm)  I used to record shows using Total Recorder.  I'm not exactly sure what the difference would be if I have someone record the show for me, or record them myself.
