Happy Independence Day, Texas!

Boy Scouts selling El Rancho Cima which is pretty close to Austin. Some techie or Hollywood-type in town for SXSW gonna buy? Or anyone with deep pockets? Nice place and nice to have a ranch so close to town though the price is pretty steep.

Auto racing legend A.J. Foyt was hospitalized after a swarm of Africanized killer bees attacked him on his Texas ranch. It was the second time the 83-year-old suffered from this type of incident, the first coming in 2005 when he was stung 200 times in his head.

Quote“I pushed down a tree with my bulldozer and thought I saw a bunch of honey bees, but they weren’t.

“So I threw it in reverse and got away from them. At least I thought I did. I got off the dozer and had about a block to walk to my truck when they came swarming down on me.”

Quote“They sent my airplane for me but I told them I wasn’t going home until I killed those bees,” he said. “We got 15 gallons of diesel fuel and dropped it and set those bastards on fire. I felt a lot better after that.”

A buddy of mine in SA texted me this story this morning. Glad AJ ok and like that he killed those bees. Africanized bees are dangerous because they are unpredictable, attack in swarms, and are unusually aggressive, especially if interrupted in their idleness by sounds of motors and equipment. The European bees, on the other hand, are productive and stable workers and far less dangerous.

I feel like there’s a pun in there somewhere.

Just lovely.

"Eleven people charged in an alleged animal sacrifice ritual identified"

There was no sign of the grisly scene Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies found in the 11400 block of Bronze Sand Road outside Loop 1604 on Friday night, when they responded to a call of animal cruelty and saw nearly a dozen people involved in what officers said was the dismemberment of goats, chickens and other animals.

“It appears that they were having some sort of unknown ritual,” said Sheriff’s Sgt. Elizabeth Gonzalez at the scene. “They were speaking a different language the officer did not recognize.”

Gonzalez said the officer is fluent in English and Spanish and the people who were inside the garage with the animals weren’t talking either language.

Dang, that is a nasty, big fish. I had one take a goose I had shot but winged and realized...I'm  deep in muck and this thing is here and just gulped my bird I said "have a nice meal" and got the F out of the river! Other stories also, they are nasty fish but some respect. Survivors and can go into brackish water, swamp, hog wallows, etc and live.

Richard is in the news again. If he makes it to May 11, he will be 112 YEARS OLD.

Yeah, that is awesome. I love his reasons for long-life and his likes: God, Cigars, Whiskey ('keeps muscles limber',) tacos, and guns. And mowing his own lawn and driving the neighbor lady (in her 80's) to church. Not sure he is doing the latter ones these days- but I wouldn't be surprised!

This should please you, Albrecht.  Well, maybe not. ;)  Usually the reasons for the placement are justified with some "interesting" criteria.

Note: the Africanized bees are more aggressive, attack en masse, with other bees joining the attacks,- which also are more prolonged- than the European bees who are reliable, industrious workers. The dangerous mix of bee types results in violence. ""They're mixed breeds -- Africanized and European together. So they are hybrids and they are maybe 20, 30 times more aggressive than regular honeybees." Also note that the Africanized bees are technically illegal bees who crossed the border without legal permission.

Ha, I miss cheesy "movies of the week" that involved animals gone bad. Luckily for society many can be found on youtube.

I don't know why I keep thinking there might be real news eventually show up in this Houston rag.   ::)

https://www.chron.com/business/national/articleComments/Mexitrends-apparel-evokes-online-outrage-with-12829424.php

"Kooks Burritos in Portland, Ore. was forced to close last year after the owners, who are white, were accused of stealing their recipes from the “tortilla ladies” of Puerto Nuevo, Mexico. Singer Katy Perry has apologized several times for cultural appropriation after wearing cornrows in a video and imitating a Japanese geisha for the opening of the 2013 American Music Awards.

Cultural appropriation is an academic term that’s erupted into the mainstream lexicon in recent years after an African-American woman at San Francisco State University confronted a white student with dreadlocks in 2016 and the video post went viral. It’s considered a form of exploitation when a dominant culture adopts the traits of a minority culture, especially for profit."

I should accuse the Houston Chronicle of "cultural appropriation" for masquerading as a serious newspaper.

Amazing stuff. Pretty soon folks in places like Portland will starve since almost all places will have to close due to "appropriation." Like food, cultural ideas, technology, religions, dress never was shared or adopted by different people throughout history.

Meanwhile here there was a stabbing, or was it a shooting, over a 'Slim Jim' (mass produced dried meat product culturally appropriated from First Nation people's pemmican.)

Not sure if these were the unpredictable and violent Africanized bees:
