GabCon Ideas?

Sometime back I posted a thing about still having friends from some BBS live gatherings in the 90's and how virtual threads can become real life rugs.  Well, the idea of an in person gathering is a subject that I wanted to open up on its own as it comes up in various threads from time to time.  Feel free to throw anything on this wall just to see what sticks and, who knows?  Maybe it will happen.

Here's some stuff to get started.  Maybe sometime in Spring.  But how about instead of Las Vegas, we make it more of a journey?  Kind of like how our relationship with Art, and the show itself has been.  It involves movement of ideas, and time and junk. So let's take a train, the Southwest Chief, say from Albuquerque, to Kingman.  That way we listen to Dark Matter on the train.  Also, the train provides togetherness, but freedom of movement and association as well.  I would definitely be in the club car putting away dabs Blue Moons with the vaguely loveable assholes of this zoo but nice people could congregate where they choose.  We'd pass through The Navajo Nation, let's say on a full moon.  Then Flagstaff for a smoke break.  Arriving in Kingman after midnight, we could take the 3am or more reasonably scheduled Greyhound to sin town.  Maybe another night drive by whatever means chartered bus $ to or through Parumph, while listening to DM, discussions of show following in some dive casino/hotel.  Yes we could invite Art to stop by after work to shoot the shit but I don't want to creep the guy out.

Of course, I'm physiologically in need of certain meds which don't exactly fly in the state of legalized whoring and gambling so I prefer the Seattle or Portland to San Fransisco Starlight Amtrak route.  (Plus, I'm effin bored by and in Vegas) Amtrak is not super cheap, but it's fun, and socially viable.  Possibly, dare I say it, fun?  :-X

PS- Jaz the Munda, I'm in for 50 American on your travel.  Same for Faulkie.

I am afraid if I met up with ya, some of you might want to lynch me and leave me hung on a tree in Hopi Land.  :P

Me too, but we can make brownies, yes?  Idk.  I'm funny about going places with people.   :-\

aldousburbank

Brownies yes.  I'm funny when I go places with people.

Gabcon in Seattle would be great.
I'd go, but if you're expecting an old curmudgeon, you might be disappointed.
I'm more of a middle aged curmudgeon.

Thank you for your generous donation to the get Jaz to the US of A Fund but money will not be the issue. The main stumbling block will be to convince Mrs Jazmunda to allow me to take a vacation without her and the kids.

Before you say bring them along, no way man. I want to experience the what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas without my better half and the kidlets cramping my style.

Well since I'm financially strapped, and have no interest in riding a train that derails once every 39 seconds in America - No thanks!  :P  That said, I did bring up the idea too in last weeks live threads.  It'd be fun, but again, it's just something I know I won't be able to afford anytime soon.  And I prefer to drive myself on trips.  *(I "require" a certain substance as well, but that wouldn't stop me from having fun)  And driving while not ideal, is still safer than flying or train rides.  The location would have to be a centralized one for those coming too.  I say St. Louis LOL - to go pick on Snooray's Studios....or is he even there anymore..IDK - but a poker run type event could be cool.  With different places to stop and meet up, eat lunch - go do something.  Personally I've only been to California, and a few other places out west.  I'd like to be able to see the galactic core with my naked eye again like when I was in Iraq.  That shit is awesome!  Never been to any sort of meet up like this so it'd all be new to me.

Y'all don't want to meet me, so I'd be out.

Well I'm glad you started this thread sir,

I have been thinking of this for awhile but would never post it as I do not have a Large Enough Cache here to do so. I thought if everybody threw in $50. (as you already mentioned) in advance, at least 80 of us.. and of course got ourselves to Vegas, it would be pretty cool.

Wait a minute.. invite only right?  :D

BTW, Seattle would be awesome too, we could go to the General's house :)

Hey Yorkie, fancy a pint?

Hahahahahaha....

It's official.  I have burned off the remaining lining....Oh, never mind.  Good one, G!   ;D

I vote for Vegas.

Possibly with an organized bus trip out to Pahrump and stop in Rachel to have a beer at the little Alie-Inn?

Well sheet, this sounds like an Agatha Christie adventure. Everybody's creeping me by bragging how hung they're gonna be though. Not that there's anyting wrong with that.

I think it sounds like a great time.  I'm about 35 miles from Seattle.

I just hope it's better organized than the CoastGab hat party of 2011.

We would have to swing by PremRat
