i finally got around to watching it without interruption a few days ago.

i didn't particularly enjoy it.  i wasn't able to bring myself to invest in the characters, and the subject/start of the movie suggested something more than it ended up delivering.  for most of the film, i couldn't determine whether i was supposed to perceive it as a parody of something or as a serious story in its self with lofty implications.  i'm also not a huge clooney fan, to be honest.  his personal pursuits tend to take me out of a/the movie to a degree.

i thought this was a fun ride.  i can totally see the military doing all kinds of crazy shit just because they heard some intelligence indicating that the Soviets were doing same crazy shit.  hysterical.

I would agree with MV's summation however it seemed like a little less of a chore for me to watch.  I asked MV if he had seen it for the reason I will ask you also b_dubb - Which one of those characters, if any, is Ed Dames?  I know who I put my money on.

Real need a nice mix of new blood and wisdom & experience..... MV FOR PREZ w/ RON PAUL WATCHIN' HIS BACK!!!!!

I think that sums up Art's method and style to the T.  I never heard the "aloof/imperial" style until I started listening to the streams and had a chance to focus on the subtleties and nuances.  At first I thought "wow, what a prick!", but then you put it in perspective and realize he was gettin' the job done right 99% of the time.

I'll second that.  It is painful to listen to Art sometimes when he has hosted in the last couple years.  Maybe our expectations are too high or something........ Nahhh, there is definitely a difference between how is is now and how he used to be.

Genrally I hate open lines.  The callers overall were better in the Bell era, and he was better at sheapherding calls in various directions, depending on the caller.  George's callers just seem tamer and uniteresting generally, however I do like it when George messes with his callers on Friday nights.

Mothman was a scary figure, according to John Keel.

I have met researcher and cryptozoologist, Loren Coleman, who brough a mothman doll to the meeting.  I tried to but it off him, but he said 'no.'  Boo hoo.

I met him this past weekend.  Pretty sure I saw the doll in the museum.  He's got tons of that funky stuff - mothman dolls, bigfoot dolls, chupacabra dolls.  It's obvious that he collects anything related to cryptozoology.  And he was a pretty cool guy too.  Little bit cheesy at first (on the tour), but when I spoke him one on one, he was quite cool.  I was surprised by his attitude towards cryptozoology - I expected him to push the fantastical aspects of CZ but he didn't.

I give it my stamp of recommendation.

You need to start watching the series if you can find it on Netflix.  Also, the second TPB movie is on Netflix.  But I suggest watching the series first, eh.  That way you can really get to appreciate and know characters like cheeseburger Randy and "fucking Lahey", and better apprecite the arc their characters have taken in the second film.  But the series is the best.

i sure wish von lahr would return.  i recall when he was still posting here, he attempted to create a second "stealth" account, although i'm not sure for what purpose.  i informed him that we only allowed one account per user, and he stopped posting after that.  wish he'd have stayed.

I too am a huge fan of the original stack series. Most of the paranormal segments are available on DVD, and if you scour the web hard enough you can find DVDs of VHS rips that contain hours and hours of taped off-air broadcasts of the old UM that were never released on DVD...

The old school one with Arthur C. Clarke? Dude that rocked I watched it all the time as a kid.

The Arthur C. Clarke show I think was called Mysterious Universe, and it was awesome too.

I was thinking of "In Search Of..." hosted by Leonard Nimoy, score by Rinder and Lewis and the music/sound design is amazing. I think that the only source for original untouched episodes is on film reels being discarded every day by local public libraries. I'm using my phone to post but later I'll post a link to the Coral Castle episode, it's worth watching.

I used to love "In Search Of.." as a kid, but I had a chance to watch a couple episodes a couple years back and I was sort of disappointed.  Granted, it still held the cool mood and atmosphere it used to (especially because Nimoy was perfect for it), but looking at the production style (not value), I just....... I don't know, wasn't feeling it.  I felt some of the shows were made about basically nothing - sort of like the bad episodes of Ghost Hunters or one of those shows.

I am sure it is not totally up to George Noory.  I think Clear Channel (who owns the show) has a say in what they do, as well as the producers, who run around trying to find guest speakers.  I think someone is keeping it safe for some reason and all the really controversial guests are kept away from the show or from topics they want to discuss on purpose.  I think guests are declining offers to be on the show (as Erich vonDaniken and Zecharia Sitchin did recently) and people gradually stop tuning in.  How much longer will the show last?  I'll give it another year or so before their subscribers don't renew and until Clear Channel turns C2C into something totally different than it is now.

I'll back that assesment.  That is pretty much exactly what I think of the show.  It reeks of a neutralized product "that can be sold to a wider audience."  I bet coporate totally played on George's desires for stardom/success and fed him a similar spiel.

i don't mean to suggest that my problem is explicitly with his ability to play drums.  rather, my problem is with the fact that he's held up as some sort of a musical icon, when in fact, he's not particularly talented at all.  i've known so many musicians who have deserved fame and fortune, and you'll never know any of their names.

He is a musical icon in the similar vein of say..... NKOTB.  Put on a pedestal by millions of adoring tweener gals - the driving force of the music market. and poor taste.
