Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I was aware the UK IS a part of the EU (at least until the oft-promised, but never delivered, referendum) but is not a part of the Eurozone (in other words the UK can still control its currency, not the ECB and Eurosystem, and does not use the EURO.)

It was crazy to allow Greek to join the EU and especially the Eurozone. Everyone was aware of the culture, history, and problems. I'm guessing that the usually uber-rich, vampiric investors, and the big banks just saw another "sucker" which they could throw into chaos and make some money, buy up land or capital, or gain some political advantage.

Iceland did neither. Called the bluff, kept their society, charged those involved, changed government, etc.
Even Bloomberg etc has had to finally admit in their news service that going against the "advice" of the IMF, bankers, etc has worked. Austerity, allowing corruption, bailing out those "too big to fail", or acquiescing to foreign banks and predatory lenders is NOT the way to go.

Germany should warm up the tanks and fire up the birds.  Head South and take what they want.  Push the Greeks into the sea.  Who's gonna stop them?  Everybody on the continent will just be happy that it wasn't them that forced the German hand.

Germany is in a difficult position. Greece's debt was basically bought by various creditors with the belief Greece would pay it all back with all the interest of course. As has been mentioned, the strict rules for Greece joining were bent broken and ignored in order for the all devouring EU to add another limb. Oh dear. The EU really doesn't want Greece to leave the Euro or worse the EU. If they do either, Germany in particular can wave bye bye to even a tiny amount of the impossible debt that Greece owes. They'll never pay it off, so those that lent it in this ridiculous merry go round might as well write it off.
