I was thinking about this too.  Regardless of Hoagie's belief, or anybody's criticism, he does spark debate and make people look at the subject(s).  Take all his theories out of the equation and he still has a passion for the sciences, especially geology and astronomy.  Yes he takes a sci-fi approach but I think it's fun.  It's nice to see people more imaginative in these areas.  Keep in mind that I do recognize the hard facts and science; and I disagree with Hoagie more often than not.  I dig his show more than I thought I would.  Feels familiar or almost endearing.  Reminds me of reading OMNI magazine in 1981, followed up by an issue of Growing Up with Science, and then moving on to a comic book and blending the three.  Maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic.  Nonetheless.......BRAAPS!  :D

Exactly, well-said, just like OMNI and old Popular Mechanics.  There's a lot of real science and excruciating-but-fascinating detail on old NASA missions mixed up with his arcologies -- his recall is astounding.  After years of Daveboy's limp, passionless mumbling Hoagie's genuine excitement is like somebody opened the window in a strong breeze.

I think I can recognize the real science too, but even if I can't none of this is stuff I really need to know to survive; it's entertainment.  I think science is cool but frankly most real scientists are painfully dry or have got major little-professor syndrome, and that didactic, skeptic, supercilious tone like the SETI guy on with Art last night just grates on me.  I'm sure it says more about my inadequacies but I like to get science with a side of gee-whiz what-if speculation no real scientist would dream of indulging, or, failing that, comic hilarity -- unintentional is best.

Where else can you find a host who can one minute intelligently and, I think, correctly rip apart a guest's false claims about the inner workings of Hasselblad cameras in a vacuum, and in the next minute claim that Kodak destroyed their labs in a conspiracy to cover up their Moon landing film technology.

Tonight is going to be VERY COOL.

Dave Distler, an engineer who is building an EM Drive in his garage.

Thank you for your work in building something instead of tearing it down as other programs do.

Why should I worry?  I'm a subscriber and I have the archive.  I'll just listen tomorrow.  WRONG!  >:(  More often than not I feel the wanton lust and desire to share the show in this thread LIVE with you fuckos!!!  :o  ;)  *sigh*  I may have an addiction issue. Or maybe immediate gratification. huh. Don't judge me.  BRAAPS!  :D

BRAAPS Brother!

Even though I'm off tomorrow, it's going to be a LONG night for me as well.  Art's show is due to be a classic and RCH is pure comedy gold.  He's such a GREAT sport!

Cheers!   ;D

Oh I got two hours of sleep last night thanks to Art and Hoagie and you guys.  My sleep bank is still brimming over from the era of Dave, where after ten minutes I was out.  We really are incredibly lucky; it's been less than a month!

I hafta say that before I ever heard Hoagie host I'd have predicted he'd run all over the poor guy's  EM drive with his torsion field but my respect for his interviewing skills has grown immensely.  In the Swagger interview I had to laugh when he wanted to measure the torsion fields at New Grange,  but it was just a cute interjection, just enough to remind you Uncle Hoagie was still there.

I hope Hoagie's venture is so successful that he can make it to Ireland with his torsion-field monitor, standing there in the dewy grass in his western suit with the elbow patches, white hair blowing in the breeze, with that gleeful smile on his face.  I wanna see the pictures.

ShayP

Fuck it.  I'm in it to win it!  I think it was K_Dubb's imagery of Hoagie in his last post that sealed it.

Wooo Hooo..... ;D

I know exactly what you mean. I'd rather just listen to Art's show while sketching or painting or such, but RCH's show is meant for running commentary. That's when I wake up a bit.

I've heard Art himself extol the virtues of live broadcasting. The sense of spontaneity . Well, OSOM is the very essence of live radio. Anything can happen at any time. It's a veritable mojo dojo of randomness, speculation, hypertension, and hair!

We can never let Hoagie forget this as he tries to refine his craft.

Braaps!  Hoping the telethon phone is still on.

I'm surprised he hasn't figured out why radio stations have silent phones in the studio yet... didn't he work in radio long ago or something? Also TV and NASA... I'm sure he has about an hour of references to drop.
