I hope people aren't going to start getting mean-spirited.  I have been digging the happiness of the anticipation that's been filling this board (practically wafting off it) up until this point.   :-\

oh it has the potential to just do a 180 and get real bad... People could end up flipping their shit on here...

look at the John B Wells thread... initially everyone saw him as a breath of fresh air and the next best thing to Art... his references to "the mothership" were endearing... and then it just turned... I'm not saying that Wells didn't do things to cause people to dislike him on this site... i'm just saying there is a point where it all just turned... we are one small event or one failed expectation away when it comes to Art

Can you imagine if at the end of the bar Art just makes an announcement that he will be making an announcement shortly? "STAY TUNED" LOL

This is exactly what I am thinking.  If he does have any sort of deal with a big time company, wouldn't they want to control the announcement and get the media involved?  I have no knowledge of the business at all, but I doubt that Cumulus or whoever else would find an announcement through a recently defunct website and word of mouth from a couple hundred fans (okay, a couple thousand if you count "social media") to be a sufficient marketing strategy.  I'm not into the guessing game here, but I'm fearing just some form of "stay tuned."  I sincerely hope I'm wrong!  I'll take what I can get!

short of another false start, i can't imagine what the small event or failed expectation would be.

I think we should all contact our local talk-radio stations, and ask them if they will be carrying the new Art Bell show.
I wonder how they'll respond...  ;)

Thank you for your posts and the information you have been sharing with us. I have enjoyed your posts so please do not back off. I can tell you look forward to Arts return as do most of us.
After all this time of hoping Art would come back, I for one will just enjoy this moment. Hope you do too.

Thank you. That was nice. :)

QuoteOn Monday afternoon, Mediaite has learned, from sources within the radio business, that Limbaugh and Hannity have “48 hours to stop Cumulus from dropping them.” In the meantime, however, we’ve confirmed that Cumulus has, indeed, begun shopping around for new talent to replace the big-ticketed talkers in Hannity and Limbaugh.

According to our industry source, Cumulus has started telling talent agents, eager to get their clients into these prime slots, that they will begin serious discussions with them “after this month” â€" meaning Thursday morning, the first day of August.

Very interesting. Could mean something, could mean nothing.

        As I thought.

Anyways, as someone who listened religiously to Stern from 1991-2007, I cannot recall him EVER, especially in the 1998 era, suggesting that any other radio personality had more listeners than him. Ever. He was in 10th place in Chicago in 1995, yet insisted he was beating Mancow.
I have a vague memory of it, sorta.  The way I remember is it was one of howard's bitch sessions about who had the biggest audience in the country.  He mentioned AB having a larger audience but then immediately made some belittling comment about it being over night and that radio stations would put anything on over night.  I remember it because I listened to them both and I thought it was interesting to hear Art's name mentioned on howard's show.  This had to be after howard's show was playing in Vegas and prior to Sirius.

Yeah, I still think there are going to be a lot of disappointed people when their "Revenge of Art" fantasy doesn't develop, only because they've let themselves go too far. To me, just about anything Art does, whether subscription radio or a podcast on a very relaxed schedule, is gravy. But I admit I myself will be very disappointed if he's not going to be on after midnight talking about shallow pimples hunting chalupa-squashes or pole-vaulter-guys doing goat-hunting in Urea 51 .
Hey, somebody save my seat. I'm going to get some popcorn, because this kind of entertainment is just too good to miss. Let's see, it's GSD in the white trunks, and kingotw in the black, or is the other way around?

All I know is that the "progress bar" was practically at 95% this morning, but now it's down to like 75 or 80%.  It's a bit erratic and inconsistent... what's the secret message behind that....

Already did.  :)

For background:  when it comes to AM news/talk format, my market has a Clear Channel owned blow torch and a locally-owned independent station.   We don't have a Cumulus station, but the local station has always carried some Cumulus content, as well as Hannity (which they lost to Clear Channel recently).  My thinking was that IF Art's announcement is that he's returning to broadcast radio, and IF Cumulus is the syndicator, the locally-owned station would have been approaced by Cumulus about carrying it, and might be lead into spilling some beans.

Here's the email I sent to their VP/GM:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello.  I’m sorry to see that the local Clear Channel affiliate has taken Sean Hannity from you and given you the Dave Ramsey show in his time slot.  As a listener, I’d prefer to support your local station rather than Clear Channel.

My main question to you, since your station carries some Cumulus content such as Mark Levin, will you be picking up the new Cumulus-syndicated  Art Bell show?   If so, do you have any information as to what time slot it will occupy?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the reply I got (emphasis mine):

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At this point we look to keep Mark Levin on and I will check out the Art Bell return.  He was gone for awhile and I think Dave Noorie replaced him.

We were Sad to have Sean leave but that is sometimes what happens to small broadcasters vs the Big Guys of Clear Channel when they own all these shows they syndicate.

Thanks again for being a listener

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make of that what you will.   To me, it doesn't seem like the guy's being disingenuous that he's heard nothing from Cumulus regarding the possibility of syndicating an Art Bell show.   Still, his reference to Dave Noorie made my day.

Well someone is going to have to be a little less elegant and a tad more direct for me to grasp the import of the simple point. Other than that I have that sensation of being prodded, and damned if I understand why.

Lonevoice and Spinner have inspired me to make some phone calls and send some emails.  It's likely a pointless exercise, but I feel like I should do something. :)

ADVICE FROM THE SCORPION ARMY PROPAGANDA MINISTRY:

1. MONITOR KDWN-AM 720KHZ AND IT'S WEBSITE! MICROWAVE? YES MICROWAVE! HOW DO YOU GET A SIGNAL FROM ART'S HOME IN PAHRUMP TO THE MASTER STATION OF YOUR PRIVATE NETWORK OF STATIONS?

2. WHERE TO FIND ART? GO TO YOUR LOCAL COAST STATION AT COAST SIGN-ON TIME, AND WAIT FOR A FRIENDLY VOICE, THE VOICE OF GENERAL BELL!

3. AND THE MAIN PIECE OF ADVICE IS TO CAPTAIN NOORY ALONE, RESIGN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOUR DOOMED!

Haha, yes!   I'm thinking that now I should try emailing the local Clear Channel affiliate to ask them if they have any plans to replace the Dave Noorie show with the new, much better Art Bell show.  I expect the Clear Channel station isn't as responsive to customer emails, but it's worth a shot.

Correct Sardondi,

I think Kingotnw needs meds or needs to stop smoking crack.

I posted a simple comment and the dude came at me like a crazed shit house rat from out of nowhere. Every forum has a village idiot and it seems Kingotnw is him.

So far he is a:

1. Expert in entertainment law
2. Howard Stern/Gary Dell'Abate (Bababooey) Co-Worker giving him expert credibility
3. Friend to NFL players and understands the in's and out's of sports contracts
4. Knowledgable fellow regarding entertainment related contracts as he knows several celebs with them and has intimate details about their contracts

Conclusion:

The dude is full of shit.

Thanks for understanding I was simply making a simple point.

Art Bell IS NOT a household name, Howard Stern and Larry King ARE household names. Period.

As mentioned, IMHO, I think Art is easily the most talented of the three, but a household name he is not.

Look GSD, I'm through arguing with you. While I can't claim #1 to be true, I can say it's part of my life, as are points 2 (though it's been a while), 3, and 4. The only reason any of those things have come up is because they were all relevant to what was being discussed. This right here, GSD, your reaction, is why people who work in the entertainment industry don't really tell anyone unless they are friends or family, or happen to be sitting right in front of someone who can see who they are. We generally don't offer genuine opinions and contributions other than vague circumstantial things. God forbid someone with real life experience in the points you mention wants to post on a message board about someone or something they are a fan of and can offer insight to other fans who may not be able to see the same things. There always has to be a couple people who just dig and dig and dig at them, asking for proof of every little thing, and then blowing them off and acting like they must be liars when they refuse to give you their phone number so you can verify who they are, so you can crawl out of your parent's basement and go tell your mom you yelled at soandso online and it made you feel like a man! Yeah... Go you.  ::)

As I said in another post. I just wanted to have fun with all the other Art Bell fans. I had some insight to offer, so I offered it. Nothing more.

I'm sure you won't mind, but I am just going ignore you and be done with it. This is hurting the thread. Maybe you are a great guy to everyone else on the board, I really don't know, but clearly I rub you the wrong way so it's in everyone's best interest for us just to be done with this. Take care GSD, and I'm sorry to others that this is dragging down the mood of the thread. I'll refrain from answering personal attacks from this point forward so as to not drag this out.
