Does Google deserve to be on top?
« on: April 12, 2008, 01:40:59 PM »
This website opened on April 5, 2008... 1 week ago as of the posting of this message.  www.coastgab.com used to point to my other website because I wasn't doing anything with the domain name.  Now, as you can see, I've chosen to do something with the domain name, hence the fact you're reading this message.  I've noticed Google STILL HAS NOT INDEXED THIS SITE and if you type coastgab.com into Google, the first result in the list is the site this domain name was previously pointed to.  I submitted a sitemap to Google this afternoon hoping it will help.  But Christ.  I went over to Yahoo today, and if you type George Noory Sucks, this site is the first one in the list.  And that's just keywords!!  It's a far cry from the specificity of typing an actual domain name into the search bar.

I know there are probably a billion technical reasons for this problem with Google, but I don't care about those reasons.  The fact is I've had to jump through hoops to get indexed with Google that I haven't had to jump through with Yahoo.  Users of Yahoo who type George Noory Sucks are finding this site, whereas Google users are not.  This means Yahoo users, by definition, are being provided a better service than those of Google, does it not?  Seems so to me.  Yahoo appears to be closer to a "real-time" accounting of what's available out there, and their indexing system appears to be far more self-sustaining than that of Google.  I'm beginning to reevaluate my long standing allegiance to Google as a search engine.  Seems most of their dominance of the market share these days could possibly be simply because they're Google.  Comments?

They're a verb now. They don't have to do anything anymore.

as shown above, in august 2007 yahoo's search results
generated a referral 10% more frequently than google.

ok i'm officially saying it.  fuck google.  their search engine is over rated.  period.  they're popular because they're google.  go to google and search for the following words:

george noory sucks

you will find there is no direct link to this site anywhere on the page... and that's with 100 results displaying!!  now go to yahoo and type that.  this site is the 5th result.  it's not number one, but we can gladly accept position number 5, considering the young age of this message board.

this site has been active for almost a month now.  google has indexed this site multiple times now.  the only way we're showing up in the first 100 google search results is if you type www.coastgab.com into it.  if somebody knew enough to type that, isn't it likely they'd just type it in their address bar and come here directly?

synopsis:  in life, sometimes things aren't as good as they're said to be.  google is a great example.   my site's failure to show up in google after a month isn't the ONLY reason i've reached this conclusion, but it's definitely the biggest reason.  if someone typed "george noory sucks" as a search term, what thinking person would say this site shouldn't be in the top tier of results?  as my racist friend matt used to say, "negro, please."

yes, yahoo used to be shit, and they were shit at a critical time which catapulted google to #1.  but now they're making it right.  yahoo has made significant improvements to their search algorithm and their indexing system.  give them another try.  i would bet money you're going to find what you're looking for more easily.  yahoo is smarter than google.

btw... if you'd like to set yahoo as your browser's home page without all the clutter, use this url: http://search.yahoo.com/web?fr=

oh... and another btw... as a matter of full disclosure, it seems yahoo's image search does stink.  i must confess that.  google provides FAR more results than does yahoo on an average image search.  my above comments regarding the superiority of yahoo only pertain to text content searches.

Hm, I had a racist friend Matt who says the same thing. Now he's an ex-friend, more because he's a stupid sexist jerk, but the racism doesn't help much. Sorry, I feel I need to vent right now! Feel free to delete this. Yeah, F Google, btw! Who needs 'em.
